While editing, get PREVIEW PLAY to stop at the End Mark
[Post New]
Hi y'all, I'm relatively new to PowerDirector... I have ver. 7.

As I TRIM clips, I find it hard to pin-point the exact spot I need at the end. Getting the front end correct is easy because I found that while playing, if I adjust the micro-seconds on the Start pane to the right (where it shopws clip duration, Start Mark location and End Mark location), the video (clipping portion) restarts right at that point. I can therefore take off or add frames and see clearly the results.

But then the video plays out through the TRIMMED portion, it does not stop when it reaches the END MARK. I have no real way to preview that moment where it should stop.

So from there I say OK, and the clip trims, then I go back to the timeline and have to play the movie to see if I got it right. usually it's off a few frames, so I have to attempt to TRIM it again, and take another stab in the dark. Again and again and again. Seems tedious.

I am proficient with audio editing using Total Recorder, and their trim function has an option to "stop at end of clip" allowing for precise marking... making editing fast and efficient. Where am I not finding this ability in PD, to get the preview playback to stop at my End Mark while editing?

Thanks so much everybody.

In the TRIM window in PD11 clicking the OUTPUT button (bottom-left) results in just what you want: PLAY reviews only the trimmed portion. Perhaps PD7 doesn't work that way?

Hmmm.. no output button on Ver.7. That's crazy. Oh well thanks for letting me know Ver.11 has what I need.

Or ver. 14, the latest, depending upon how sophisticated and wealthy you are. ^_^

There is one problem with Power Director in regard to editing out spare frames, one cannot trim less than three frames out from a full second. For example, I'm editing shots together to form my "movie", I have a clip, the duration of which is 2 minutes, 25 seconds and two frames. If I set the scrubber at the very end of that clip while it's highlighted, if I count back the two frames to the exact point of 2 minutes 25 seconds, the split function is not available, so I now have to count back to 2 minutes, 24 seconds before I can split the scene and delete the excess(which, at 1 second and two frames, is much more than I wanted to "snip off", send to the cutting room floor, so-to-speak). Another third party software I have allows me to split, right back to just 1 frame out from a full second, I find this feature extremely useful when editing video clips and wish I could do likewise with Power Director.I still, however, return to PD for adding music and narration to my works, and to "author"(burn) them to DVD.

Cheers!
