Problems with menu
[Post New]
Hi everyone,

I use PD 13 and I want to make a DVD with just a root menu, one title + 4 chapter links.

Each of those 5 described by small text, e.g. "Summer 2015" as title and "Chapter 1", ... , "Chapter 4".

Either in modifying a current template (and saving it before going back to editing) or starting a new menu from scratch, I can't get rid of the initial title ("My Videos") and buttons text ("Item 1", ... , "Item 4" respectively). I can only move them or add new text but I'm never able to get into their text NOR DELETE them !!!!!

It is supposed to be something simple, all the video (or photo) editing programs released 10+ years ago made that simple for the user. Now, I can't do anything.

I hav also watched quite a few tutorials about menu authoring etc. but all those smart @sses bypass this issue ... and to me it certainly doesn't seem coincidential.

What is it I'm missing ? Please specify.

Thanks in advance !

Don't know if this will help or confuse - apologies if it does the later. I haven't used the menu designer in PD13 yet, but if it's like PD12..... then...

You create the menu - in menu designer... but.. you need to 'apply' this template (menu) to your project before you can go into either the root, or chapters, or sub-chapters menus - to edit their content.

I think you are trying to have a Root Menu that has the chapters listed on it though...... correct? I haven't been able to do this in the past. You may want to search either PD12 or PD13 forums to see if there is any discussion about this. I think PD is just 'set up this way' - BUT I may be mistaken so hopefully someone else responds and either confirms this or can provide you with direction. At the very least - you will have a Root Menu and a chapter menu.

Make sure to have 'Chapter Markers' set on the frame that you want to be the first frame of the chapter you are marking.

I think this is it... It's a bit cumbersome... until you get used to it. Still, it makes a nice chapter and root menu though.

The 'My Videos' can be edited, again, I think after you have applied the menu template, then select the Menu Structure and select the root menu, then the text I think is edit-able.
Give it a try

My friend thank you for your time and support.

Actually what you mentioned worked ... at first. Because then I did have to try hard to understand why I cannot have only one menu but instead be "obliged" to have a Root Menu and a Chapters Menu ... where are the days where customisation options where the priority of the software ?

Anywa, while I was experimenting with the different details I could change, the Support Team replied to me that the only way to do this is to render the material for each chapter, one-by-one, save it as separate clip and then import those new clips to the timeline and link them (one-by-one) with the chapters I want to create ... that's the best that may be done, in 2015 ...

Most of us have also tried other programs over the years, so I guess anyone can make their own conclusions. I guess the pros of our days need to spend less effort and resources in the marketing direction and, instead, turn their attention to the product itself first.
