Playback issues with PowerDirector 14

All my editing was going perfect using PowerDiector 13 Live. Did the update to PowerDirector 14 Live & now I have lots of issues with the playback. The playback stops at the beginning of most clips (but not them all) for about 1-2 seconds then starts playing again. Then sometimes it will skip an entire clip & go to the next where it may stop again or play normal. This problem seems to only happen on the video clips. Does not happen on photo or text clips. I have tried reloading & re-editing the videos but the problem still exists. I am so frustrated because I have hours into my video & it is not useable anymore. Can't find a work around. I wish Live/cloud would let me go back to 13 to see if that will get things back to normal.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks.

I have the same problem with PD14. PD13 worked fine for me. I have a fast computer, 16GB of RAM, and two SSD's. My video card is my weak link, so I'm trying a new video card this week to see if it will improve anything.

For now, the only solution is to drop the preview quality to "normal". It looks bad, but the timeline plays back smoothly. Anthony Watson

PD seems to like Nvidia cards better. I just recently upgraded from an AMD 290x, to a Nvidia GTX 980ti. It's noticeably quicker.

Thanks for the replies guys.
So I am really confused now because I did nothing different & made no changes since I went to bed last night, in a state of utter frustration. I started up PD14 & did have some problems opening up my file, had to shutdown PD14 & restart it then everything loaded up fine. Did not change any playback settings & just thought I would try it again. It has worked great every time now, knock of wood.
As for the video card that is another frustration. The card I am using is perfect for my design/artist/cnc software but it gives issues with some of my video software. Nothing drastic, just annoying. I do believe that will be my next ugrade, but not sure which card will give me the best balance. It's as though my computer needs two separate video card profiles where you can switch between them as required. I too have a powerfull computer runnung 32GB ram, 5 SSD's, but a slightly out of date 7 processor. I won't mention my video card because you guys would think I'm nuts but it works fantastic with my main daily processing (it's a mid-range/level card).
I should come back here more often because I want to get good at PD14. ny of you guys from Canada?
Talk to you later.

Funny you should say that. I opened PD14 this morning and no matter how many times I tried I couldn't get it to studder on transitions, even at the highest preview quality settings. Weird, I've been fighting this issue all week. Not sure what's up with that. All I can think is it's something unique to the source files and/or particular project I am working on.

Ironically, I could never get MP4 video to play back smoothly on PD13, but it was playing back perfectly this morning on PD14 at the highest preview quality.

I'm still using an Asus GT440 "fanless" video card. I don't do ANY gaming so the card has worked very well for me, and best of all it is completely silent. That matters a lot to me, so the card I am upgrading to (Asus GTX-750) is also fanless. Certainly not bleeding edge fast, but hopefully an improvement over what I have now. Anthony Watson

Jack - You need to go to the forum home page for PD14 and click on the New topic icon to create a new post as your issue is different from that of the OP.

A bit of additional feedback for everyone:

I've found that using Windows Media Player (with add-on codecs) offers a smoother playback experience with MP4 files. Even my otherwise favourite VLC media player looks shabby in comparison. Win 10, i7
