Text Transition Not Applying

I am trying to create a simple fade transition from one text segment to the next. I'm placing the fade on the text segment of the timeline and it's not having any effect of the text.

Also the time of the fade is not being saved, in other words if I go in and change the duration of the fade from default 2 seconds to 1 or 3 seconds it remains at 2 seconds.

This is a newly downloaded Powerdirector 13 Ultimate.

Any suggestions?

Hi Granet123

Place your two pieces of text next to each other in the "text" track. Now double click on the first one to open the "Title Designer". At the top of the designer you will see a motion tab, click on it. This will reveal a "starting effect" and an "ending effect" tab. For the first piece of text, click on the ending effect tab and select the "fade" transition, now bottom right of screen click "save".

Now select the second piece of text, but this time select "starting effect" and select the fade transition again and now save as before.

The two pieces of text should fade nicely in to each other. If you need an even closer fade effect you can place the second piece of text in another track and very slightly overlap them.

You can adjust the duration of the fade in title designer: see attached.

I hope this helps

The default apply fade transition or other effect is applied directly into the Title Designer.

But can be applied Transition fade, directly in the text block, in many situations.

2 sec. is the default time can be changed in Preferences / Editing / Transitions.

You can adjust directly one by one, select the transition, Duratinon button or stretch / shrink the transition block.

Hi Granet123 -

As The Shadowman and PlaySound have suggested, there are different ways to achieve a text fade. It sounds like you're using a fade from the Transition Room, rather than within Title Designer. That's OK. That's just one way to do it.

The behaviour you're describing should NOT be occurring.

Attached is a simple project showing different possibilities for fading text. Some fade to/from black and some transition from one title to the next.

Cheers - Tony

Thank you very much for the suggestions.

ynotfish, thank you for the file, when I click on text tracks on your file it opens the Title Designer and has the tabs as Shadowman describes, but when I click on the text tracks I've created in my file it opens 'NewBlue Titler Pro' which has different tabs (Object, Syle, Effects, Transitions, there are just instructions under Transitions).

Also I notice that you text files are on regular tracks, mine don't show up if they are moved from the Text track to other tracks.

Anyone know what I am doing differerntly? And would that explain why the transitions aren't working?

Thanks.

Hi again

So far as New Blue is concerned, you must be dragging the NB container in "text room" down to the timeline.

In the text room, near the top click on ALL CONTENT. You need to use the "default" text container and drag that down, and then you will be able to do everything as I described before.

I wouldn't use NB until you have conquered the ordinary stuff, but when you are ready NB is very good.

Edit: Text should be visible in any track that PD allows you to place it in. If you cant see your text, make sure the track has a check mark in the little square on the left edge.

If you still cant see your text, please post a screenshot of your timeline and tracks so we can see what is going on.

I hope this helps you achieve your aim

Shadowman, that solved it, I moved Default onto the tracks and Title Designer now opens and I can do fades.

Thanks very much all for the instruction and files, greatly appreciated.
