I recently lost my HDD's and had to rebuild. I imported my project from the cloud but the project files are not in the same directory where I was storing them. Does PD have a log file where all files are stored or do I have to manually choose the new location for each files from the popup when the project is trying to locate them?

As far as I know, PD asks whether to search for the missing file.

Search by name, automatically finding PD loads the other files in the same folder, repeat if you have files in other folders. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3
SSD SUV400S37240G / 2-HD WD 1TB
AMD Radeon R9 270 / AOC M2470SWD

Hi Timowj03

As Playsound said, PD will automatically add the folder that you direct it to when you open up each project with missing clips, and you only need to browse once if all the files are in the same folder. The important thing is that you need to make a small change and save the project to update the stored folder info, otherwise you'll be prompted for the files again each time you open the project.

By small change, I mean adding or deleting something from the timeline and then clicking undo. PD will then show an asterisk (*) after the file name and you won't be able to exit the program or open another project without being prompted to save the current project.

On the other hand, if you're looking to re-create all your original folders and place the original clips in them so that each PD project is fully restored, you can use an XML viewer like Notepad++ to open up the .PDS file. (Note, you may need to set the "language" to XML to make sense of the progamming tags).

With the project file open in the XML viewer, do a search for SRC= and you'll see the full path for the first clip, like D:\My Videos\20140101\00023.MTS. That's where PD is expecting to find that clip, and it's where you should place your recovered clips. Hitting F3 will bring you to the next clip in the PDS file, and when you reach the end you'll have seen where all the clips are supposed to be.

You'd need to do this for every project, but you may find it's easier to re-create your previous folder structure and leave the actual projects unchanged rather than to update each project with the current clip locations. Either one will work, so it's a matter of personal preference.

Thanks Playsound and Optodata!!

Opening the PDS file as an XML file is exactly what I was looking for. A file that would contain the source of all the files for my project so I can try and rebuild it.

Now the fun begins. :

Thanks again!
