unable to see "power tools" and others after spliting video

"The problem is that currently the row of menus above the timeline (split, modify, trim, fix/enhance, power tools and keyframe) only shows up when i highlight the first video clip. when i click on any other video clip the only option i get is split, remove selected clip and a little 'more features' menu, which is very frustrating as i cannot get the option to use the power tools on any of these other clips"

The above quotes were taken from an earlier post I found. Apparently there is a patch to down load to correct, however I cannot seem to find this patch.

Thanks for the link, but after seeing what I need to do to get my question answered, I just lost interest and don't really care any more. Tim989

Hi Tim,

That's a bit "lame" of you. Tomasc has asked you for specific information, the version of PowerDirector 12 you are using. If you had provided the data, I'm sure tomasc would have followed up with what you needed to do to access the correcting update patch and given you the right link.

If you look at the top of any of CyberLink's web pages, you'll see the button for "Downloads" and a sub-menu, "Software Updates". Now if you have "lost interest" you may not want to look.... but it could be partially what you're after. Neither tomasc or I know if it is the right answer.

Hi 989Tim989 -

For the clips where the editing options don't appear, try unlinking the video & audio (right click option). When you select the video portion only, do the editing tool buttons re-appear?

Cheers - Tony

That just did the trick for me ......

Unlinking works, but what if you want to be able to keep the audio synchronized with the video. Is there a reason why the tools disappear for certain clips? thanks

Can't they be 're-linked' again? Thought they could.

They can be relinked, but not after you use PowerTools to change the speed of the video clip which is what I'm trying to do. Thanks

Hi, all!

For a start, you shouldn't need to "unlink" the video and audio tracks. Now I've said that, I'll get to the crux of this matter.

The problem for 989Tim989 is that the following tools, split, modify, trim, fix/enhance, power tools and keyframe, disappear from their space, just above the timeline as he is working. Well, 989Tim989, the first thing I might gather is that you're working with(probably) several clips strung together on the timeline(Track 1), yes? Okay, You want to adjust each "clip" individually and want to apply a little of what Fix/enhance and Power Tools can do to each clip? Simple enough, as you go along your timeline, click on each clip in turn to highlight it, the tools will appear to allow you to perform whichever task you want on each clip.

Cheers!

Neil.

Hi Neil, for my situation, I completely agree with your statements that you shouldn't need to unlink..and should be able to highlight any single clip at a time and see Fix/Enhance and Powertools. However, the issue I'm having is that those buttons only appear when I highlight certain clips. If I do unlink (which I don't want to) then they appear. Does anyone know why? thanks!

Hi, Gary!

Sounds like some unforseen trouble with your programme. Somewhat curious too! Surely Power Director should not behave in this manner. There may be, just may be, a fix in "Preferences" that you might want to look for in trying to solve this issue. I might be clutching at straws on this next guess but I wonder if perhaps you may have mixed file types(MPEG2, MP4, AVI, WMV....) on your timeline? This one might need a bit of a group-think from Carl312, Ynotfish, Dafydd B and anyone else who as any ideas and might offer a solution. This one's a real doosey!

Cheers!

Neil.

You might get a better response if you start a new thread Catrina. This one is over a year old and even though you have a question, it may not get as much attention as you wanted.

So, just start a new thread.

Try to take another screen shot and include a look at the timeline in addition to what you show on this first screen shot.
