Hello,

It seems we lost support for the .mk3d format with the release if PDVD14, and that continues with 15. Can we expect this release to support this format anytime soon? The wrapper isn't different from MKV, it's just 3D enabled.

Cyber guys? Lil' help please!

Thanks,

J.

Hello Jason,

PowerDVD 14 and 15 both support MK3D files. If you are finding that a file won't play in 3D, it could be that the 3D source video format is not supported by the container. For example, the MK3D container does not fully support MVC 3D (source video format), apparently.

In other words, it depends on how the file was created. This would explain why it worked for you before with one file, but not another.

Best bet is to contact tech support with a sample of the file you are experiencing the problem with and they can help you sort it out.

Thanks David. It will play the movie, the problem is I cannot select a 3D source format - the option is greyed out.

If I rename the file extension to .mkv, the menu appears.

Also - Keep in mind the the MK3D file extension was designed to hold non MVC 3D formats. MVC 3D (aka 3D BD) is normally just in a MKV file extension with the file header identifying that it is MVC not AVC. I've been speaking with the Dev Team and they at present are looking at MVC in MKV though no gty of when/if it will be supported. PD 64 Bit-Win10 64 Bit-32GB RAM-80TB HDD
Sony FX6 - 500Mbps 4k/50p AVC-I HLG
Canon XF400 - 150Mbps 4k/50p AVC
GoPro Hero6 Black
Pana HS700-28Mbps 1080/50p AVC (High@L4.2)
Canon HV20-HDV 25Mbps 16:9 1440x1080/25p MPEG

Is there a better conatiner/format for MVC 3D content than a MKV file? MP4, etc..? Would PowerDVD 15 handle it better if I took my MKV files and converted them to a BluRay disc folder structure and it play them from there?
