Compatibility of PD13 with Windows 10 and NVIDIA GeForce GT720?

I am considering upgrading from PD12 to PD13, only because PD12 is apparently incompatible with Windows 10 (to which I will eventually upgrade). My concern, however, is my graphics card.

The PD website says that PD13 is compatible with "NVIDIA GeForce GT/GTS/GTX 200/400/500/600 Series", whereas I am using a GeForce GT 720. Does this mean that my graphics card will not work with PD13 and Windows 10? Regards,
Dan

Just went through this same issue. I had a MSI 260GTX that just wouldn't work at all with PD13 under Windows 10 without rendered videos having a terrible stuttering problem and freezing of the preview screen during rendering. I replaced it yesterday with a EVGA 960GTX and preliminary results are satifactory so far. I'd take Cyberlink's minimum hardware requirements with a grain of salt as they appear to be written by the marketing department and have no real bearing on whether PD13 will function normally.

Yes, I read your post, which is why I posed the question. I'm happy with PD12, Win7, and my GT 720 graphics card. I really don't want to upgrade all three, so if it comes to that, I'll just stay where I am.

Thanks! Regards,
Dan

The GT 720 is an nVidia Kepler-based card, and that's fully supported. The list you pointed to leaves off all the newer generation cards - all 7xx and 9xx cards are supported as well.

In my opinion, the GTX960 is well worth the US$200 upgrade cost. It's a really powerful GPU for video editing and you're not paying for lots of gaming bells and whistles that PD doesn't use. The GT 720 is considered an entry-level card, and here's what the relative performance increase would look *like*

The performance boost is really significant, but it's definitely not something you have to buy if you want to get a newer version of PD.

Thanks for the info. Makes you wonder why PD wouldn't include 7xx and 9xx in their list...not a lot of extra electrons!

As to upgrading, I may, but without checking out the 960 requirements, it may require more power supply or slot space than I have available on my Dell XPS.

Just as a followup and info for others with the same question, I received the following from PD tech support:

"Thank you for contacting CyberLink Technical Support.

I understand your concern related with the compatability of PowerDirector 13 in NVIDIA GeForce GT 720.

Regarding your concern, I would like to inform you that PowerDirector 13 is fully compatible with NVIDIA GeForce GT 720."

Thanks again, oldthor and optodata. Regards,
Dan

Thanks for the confirmation

Also, kudos for thinking ahead to make sure there's enough room inside your case and that you have a big enough PS before you deciding to get the new card. It's a real disappointment to get a new card only to find out it's too big or you need to buy a bigger power supply!

According to the nVidia site, the *GT 720* is passively cooled and only needs a 300W PS, while the *GTX 960* is fan-cooled and needs a 400W supply, but it's almost double the length and requires an extra 6-pin power connector at the top.

Both are dual-width cards, so at least we know the 960 will fit width-wise, but that extra 6-pin connector might be an issue with your currrent PS. The good news is that it's only $30-$40 to get a new 400W - 500W supply and they're very easy to swap out.

In any event, you can upgrade to PD13 now and then decide whether to upgrade your GPU whenever you're ready.

Happy editing
