Preview Lags / Marker Jumps

Hi there. The support team couldn't really help me with this so I'm asking you guys. I have a problem with PD 13. After successfully editing many videos, it suddenly became extremely slow and laggy. I can import all my clips into the project and put them into the timeline. But as soon as I start the preview, it is extremely slow and laggy and at some point the image freezes and the time marker jumps ahead some 15 seconds (see attached video) while the audio is still playing in normal speed. It is impossible to edit my videos like this. The weird thing is that this problem appeared suddenly, I didn't change anything and I'm using the same camera etc.

Here's what I have already tried:

  • Set the preview quality to the lowest setting

  • Reinstall the program

  • Update all my drivers

  • Update PD13 to the newest version

  • Update my Computer to Windows 10

But nothing changed. I have also tried to use another (free) video editing software and there was no problem with the clips I am using. Furthermore I tried clips from another camera with PD13 and the same problem occured.

It is really annoying. Really hope someone can help...

Thanks in advance!

Hi Gabriel

The first thing that I have seen is that you are using shadow files, but not waiting until all the clips are green before starting to edit. Failing to wait causes all sorts of problems including symptoms like yours.

The other thing I suspect is that your clips are high resolution or high bit rate, so could post a screenshot of your clip properties. Highlight clip, right click and select "view properties"

Also what is the build of your PD version?

Thank you for your answer!

Yes, I have read about that in the forum. However, I also tried to open a project and only import one clip. The lag ocurred aswell.

Here are the properties of a clip (see attachment):

Type: H.264 AVC

Bitrate: 23.16 Mbps

Resolution: 1920x1080

Frame Rate: 25 fps

Profile: High Profile

Frame Type: Progressive

Hi Gabriel

Further to the above, I would suggest that go here: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect and see if you can upgrade your CPU with the latest driver (29th May 15) I think. Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

A powerful machine, low res clips. This shouldn't be happening.

I see you are using W10, so please say what build your version of PD13 is. Click on the icon in the top left corner of the screen. Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

I've had a similar but not identical situation (described in other thread). Your experience just adds to my suspicion that there's an internal bottleneck in PD13. It's somewhat unclear why PD13 struggles so much on systems with ample resources (see my signature).

The first thing many will jump on is you running W10. It may be worth it to try, although time consuming, to run in a W7 virtual partition (or other system) or ask another PD user to run your project and see the difference.

Regardless, I would suggest you officially submit a problem to CL, offering to upload your clip and project. The more issues documented, better the visibility of this issue. 32gb of memory!!! Wow I guess the minimum requirements for PD13 are sort of meaningless.
