How to deal with different fps
[Post New]
How do should you operate if you are to make a video out of clips of 60 and 50 fps? I am in PAL country and have two cameras with different outputs.

Thanks

I did not express my self clear enough. I have a mixture of clips. Both 50 and 60 fps. Do you think PD can handle both at the same time ie. importing them as mixed into the same project?

If you go to preferences you will see that PAL Works with 25 and 50 fps.
If you use transitions or anything that moves it will be smoother/better quality with 50fps than 25fps.
Cheers :

I think what otava wants to know is, will there be a loss of quality with the 60fps clips. I think the answer must "yes" due to PDs auto frame pulling, ie a loss of 1 in 6 frames. This must leave a little jerk at least.

Am I wrong, please let me know

final edit @ 50fps

Thank you.
These answers are good enough for me. There is anyhow one Q in my mind. Might ask it here as well. Is there a function to play the clip or part of it in reverse. Trying to extend some very short historical clips?

You are welcome.

To reverse play your clip, highlight it and select POWER TOOLS. then select VIDEO IN REVERSE.

Any other problems? Just come back again Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

Sorry. Cannot find Video in Reverse. Only 2D > 3D and Photo rotation.

Have a look at the screenshot. This is what you should see.

What version of PD13 are you using?

Otava

I'm pretty sure that 2907.0 was withdrawn for technical reasons. The latest is 2907.1. Read this thread first: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/43925.page

Then go Here to download the latest patch: http://www.cyberlink.com/support/powerdirector-ultra/patches_en_US.html Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

Some NLE products claim they handle mixed formats, frame rates etc but I think PDR13 gives best results when you try to match input with planned output. I assume assume you want to produce PAL HD (25 or 50fps). 60fps is NTSC. I don't have access to a NTSC camera but suggest you do a simple test - first add a 50fps and a 60fps clip to your timeline and produce a H.264 HD file at 50fps PAL. Next use the same two clips in a new project but first convert the 60fps clip to 50fps using a 3rd party program. Add your original 50fps clip plus your now converted clip to the timeline and repeat the test above and compare the H.264 output files. THis should tell you if is is better to convert your 60fps NTSC videos to 50fps before you edit, OR if there is no noticable difference, then just use PDR13 and skip the conversion.

Make sure your PDR13 Settings General is set to 50fps(PAL) before you start. PDR13 may give you a warning when you add the 60fps clip to the timeline. Just ignore it and continue.

I tried mixed clips (30 and 50) and the output setting 50. My eye could not tell any malfuction or trembling on the play.
As to the download of new files, at first sight it looks quite complicated and I need to give it a deeper thought.
