Music Video Synchronization Question - Any Tips?
[Post New]
Hi. I am making a music video with a single song and a lot of action. I would like to have the events in the video happen "in time" with the music. I am new to the Power Director 13, and I just wondered if there were any tips I might use? Obviously I can attempt to manually synchronize the punch landing on the jaw so that it happens on the beat. Is there any other methods built into the program?

Just checking, thank you for any assistance offered.

Hi -

There's nothing magic built into PDR that will build your video sequence for you so it syncs with the music BUT there are some things that might help.

Firstly, there's Beat Detection. It doesn't work well enough for my liking, but it's a starting point. What it does is plant beat markers on the timeline which could be useful for what you're doing.

If you're displaying photos (not video), the Cell slideshow (with the right music) does respond to beat. i.e. image transition will match the music.

Yes - visually matching action with with music accents will need to be done throughout the piece. That will lift it.

If it's music with a steady beat, I like to start by using *MixMeister BPM Analyzer*. That gives you the PBM - & that number can be used to determine sequence & transition duration.

Cheers - Tony

Thank you so much for the information. I have been using Nero, and for whatever reason it is simply impossible to produce a video where the synchronization stays coherent from editing to export. I will give your advice a try.

Not sure if PD13 can do that or not, I mainly use it to create copies of my disc collection.

Take a peak at THIS

I spent 4 months on it. I didn't use the Beat Detection, I think it sucks too.

Basically, I manually put in Timeline Markers (Shift+M). to mark where I wanted things to start and stop. I wish there was a way to link markers to clips. I also wish the audio tracks displayed a better representation of the audio in wave form. I just get blocks.

Syncing a video clip so a punch, lands on time will require a bit of tweaking. You can use Alt+Left or right Arrow, to move a clip left or right by one frame.

It's a lot of manual work, but to get perfect results... I think manual is the way to go. CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

Maybe this is an occation to once again link to a (music) video elegantly edited. Cranston edited this one back in 2009 with PD8. He made PD an audio editor ! You will see the timeline work of the audio in the last part of the video. Enjoy!

Hi,
I would like to add automatically about 2000 pictures to a music song, where I have added manually a Marker list to the timeline by tapping Shift M to the beats of the song.
As the music is pretty fast I have about 2000 markers now on the timeline for this song.
Now I want to automatically import 2000 pictures this way, that each picture is automatically aligned to the next maker and the length of the picture should match the duration of the time difference between the markers.
Is this somehow possible ?
I really don´t want to do this all manually, cause aligning 2000 pictures would be a real long pain to do...
So is there any trick in Powerdirector 14 to do this somehow, maybe also via some kind of Batch script or a plugin I could use ?
It would be also okay, if the pictures would be all for instance 0.3 seconds long, so that then there would be some black gaps between the ending of each picture and the next marker position...
Would be glad , if this would work somehow...
Or if this is not possible, is there any other video editing program that can do this easily ?
Many thanks in advance.
Regards, Carmen.
