How do I Move clips in timeline with mouse without activating the pip designer?

Hi there,

I am using the trial version of Powerdirector 13 and I'm finding it good apart from one infuriating thing. Often when I try to move a clip in the timeline using the mouse, instead of the clip moving to where I want it the pip designer pops open. Does anyone know if there is a failsafe way that I can move clips around in the timeline without continually having to shut the pip designer and go back to my clip to try to move it?

I've looked in the manual but can't find anything covering this topic. I've found when I enlarge the timeline it's a bit more consitent - is this the trick?

Many thanks for any advice.

It usually takes a double click to open the PIP designer. I could not replicate your problem without double clicking.

Try a smooth single click and drag the clip at the same time without releasing. Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

Thank you very much for your reply.

Perhaps it's my mouse as even when I do a single click it sometimes opens.
Do you happen to know if there is a way I can change the double click to open PIP in preferences at all?

It is perhaps your mouse. You said you wanted to drag a clip, and to do that you do not release the first click. You click and drag without releasing it.

If the first click is not released and the PIP designer is still opening there is something wrong.

So far as I know, the only way to open the PIP designer is a double click on the clip or the use of hotkey F2 and then the Escape key to exit it.

Is it possible your mouse is set to double click as a default? Have a look at your mouse settings Panny TM10, GH2, GH4,

Hi there,

I've just reinstalled the drivers for my mouse and checked that it's not set to double click for single click. I'm still getting the problem though!!

Very strange although perhaps something to do with windows updates...

Sorry, I don't know then.

Perhaps somebody else will chime in.

Good luck with it

Note that should give one click on the clip to select it.

A hand appears, click, hold and drag to the new position.

If you still have trouble, try another mouse. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3

Hi ACW811616 -

You and The Shadowman are on the right track, I think. It's more to do with your mouse settings than anything in PDR.

Here, in Win 7, in Control Panel > Mouse > Activities, you can adjust the speed of "double clicking" before it registers. I'd play around with whatever the appropriate setting is on your system... so that when you want to click & drag it doesn't think you want to double click.

Cheers - Tony

I think (fingers crossed) I've found a fix. In mouse settings I changed the left click and right click options around so now I click with the right button. No more random PIP designer opening - must be the mouse.

Thanks Shadowman for your help, editing just got a whole lot faster :
