Can I customize bitrate for DVD output?

I prepared everything and then when I want to start burning my disc, I see no options to lower the bitrate. Some DVD players cannot play 8,000 bit rate.... Is it possible to lower it using power director?

Or is there another software that does that? I need a DVD author software where I can burn 6,000 bit rate DVD. Please help!

Thanks you!

If your dvd project is 4x3, then you can use sp or lp to lower the bitrate. If the project is 16x9, try this:

  1. Produce the file at the mpeg-2 6000kbps using a custom profile and use that on the timeline.

  2. Add a few test chapters.

  3. Uncheck all hardware acceleration in preferences. Burn the disc on dvd+-rw without any HA.

  4. Check the disc vob files with mediainfo. svrt may have kicked in and you got what you wanted.

Never tried this on dvd but post what you find as this may help others.

This does not work. Even though I put the initial file at 6000 bit rate, after creating the disc in PD13, the bitrate shows as 8300....

Has anyone else found a solution?? I really like the menu creation here, but I need to be able to set the bitrate lower on 16:9 aspect.

I discussed at length here http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/20867.page#116989 and here http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/20867.page#116989 for both DVD and BD. Very detailed pdf attached for BD but principle is the same for DVD. Just repeated and method works fine in PD13 V2604. Post your exact steps, most likely user error in procedure.

Thanks. But I was confused by the steps. What is the SVRT feature you mention there?

How do I apply it to DVD creation?

Exactly as tomasc outlined earlier.

1) Create a custom MPEG2 profile in the "Produce" tab based on the default DVD-HQ profile. Since this profile has the 720x480 which you want, modify the bitrate to be 5700 avg, 6000 max or your desire.
2) Bring the produced mpeg from step 1 back into PD13 timeline and add chapters and such, do not perform other edits.
3) Go to create disc, select your menu, select DVD and use the DVD-HQ profile. Unselect "Enable hardware video encoder" on the "Burn in 2D" tab.
4) Burn to disc, folder, or ISO.

Behind the scene PD will actually use SVRT (Smart Video Render Technology, i.e, no re-encode) and you will end up with a 6000 bitrate 720x480 VOB files just as your created MPEG2 from step 1 on your disc or folder.

Where is the "Unselect "Enable hardware video encoder" on the "Burn in 2D" tab. I can't see it!! Am I blind?

Hi thanks, But I don't get that option. Here is an image of what I get on my screen:

Yes, uncheck that box. The box exact wording varies depending on GPU's, mine was for Nvidia, yours for Intel GPU.

Ok thanks I think its working.

I made a custom profile using 1280 by 720 and 6000 bitrate. But when I burned it to a disc, the resolution shows on the dvd as 720 by 480...

Why did that happen?

The DVD-Video resolution the maximum 720x480 (NTSC).

In produce, MPEG2 DVD HQ, create a new profile only reducing 8Kbps bitrate for 6 Kbps.

Okay thanks.

When I produced my files I put in the average bitrate at 5700 and Maximum bitrate at 6000... But when I view a test dvd I made, it shows average bitrate at 3500... Also, what is the difference between CBR and CVBR in "produce"?

Why is it so much lower than what specified?

PD does things we do not understand well.

CVBR technically should apply lower bitrate overall, and parties that the image has more details can achieve the highest bitrate.

CBR, bit rate fixed for the entire video.

To try profile with CBR 5 Kbps.

bitrate, allows about 2 hours to DVD 4.7 Gb.

Why is it so much lower than what specified?

With CBR profile should not happen this. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3

It is not working. I mean its outputing the file in lower bitrate, but way lower than what I specified... I even tried to keep the default DVD HQ (8mbps) setting and the average bitrate output for the new file still shows as 3500... Any suggestions?

HD DVD is not the same as DVD-Video.

I have done with DVD bitrate CVBR 9 ~ 9.5 Kbps. never had problems.

DVD with this high birate I do in other sofware, PD is limited to 8 Kbps bitrate.

The case of your DVD is 3.5 kbps bitrate, perhaps has to do with the original video.

I already got videos in HD 1280x720 with 2.8 Kbps bitrate.

Determined Camcorder Sony does it.

If you post a small original video can check here, and try some solution.

Sorry I just wanted to say that while I think Powerdirector is a great program... not having the option to sate the bitrate output for DVD is ridiculous. It's like it has everything but this last piece of the puzzle.

I just bought Nero Video 2015 instead and it allows me to do exactly this. I had a 15mbs bitrate and I set it to 6000 output, and boom it worked right away! Interesting the PD has so many options but they forget what's most important.
