How to switch static backgrounds in PowerDirector without a greenscreen?
[Post New]
Try Chroma Key in Pip Designer, works well to remove solid color.

Hawkeye,
what is your background?
What is your final goal?
A screenshot of your scene might help. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.

My background would include ceiling, flooring walls and windows and want to replace with an outdoor scene, a scene I can download from cyberlink. I saw in a youtube video where someone took their original static background and replace with a photograph. Here's a sample: https://youtu.be/OzBmiVYB-8Q I was told this can be done in Power Director.

I would like to know who told you how to do it in powerdirector. Have that person explain the steps here. It would be a huge benefit to many of us.

Hi Hawkeye -

PDR doesn't have a "difference matte" facility like the software shown in your linked video.

The only way I've found you can "switch backgrounds" in PDR is by masking. It can only be done if the clip is a static tripod shot and nothing interferes with the background. You could not do this with the sample clip Boats.wmv because some of the mooring poles are moving against the sky. Nor would it work for the clip you linked where the boy is running in front of the gates (& it didn't work too well in the tutorial either!).

How to?

  • Take a snapshot of the original clip

  • Remove the background from the snapshot in PhotoDirector or graphics software

  • In PDR, apply the modified snapshot as a mask

  • Insert a different background clip

I've attached a low-res produced file of the above, but it sounds like that's not what you want to do.

Cheers - Tony

So as long as the background is static I can keep the people (subject) in and replace everything else. Is there a tutorial on that? if so can you give me the link or set it up where I can download it?
