Aspect Ratio and Country/Video Format issues

I have 'Produced' my first Project using PowerDirector v.12, first as an MPeg4 and then as MPEG2 and created a DVD of each format. Note: The Aspect Ratio in Edit mode was set to 16:9
The issues are, both DVD's "PLAY" OK on my fully functioning 5 year old Panasonic DMR-BW850 DVD Recorder/Player, however, when I tried to COPY the contents of each disc onto the Hard Drive the DVD Recorder/Player a message said. "Cannot copy. TV system of the disc is incompatible. Please insert a compatible disc".
I noticed regardless whether I choose MPeg2 or MPeg4 in Produce mode, the "Country/Video Format of the disc showing on the "PRODUCE" mode both screens said, "Australia PAL". However when checked both discs using "Nero InfoTool" both says, "Video format : NTSC 4:3 (Mpeg 1, 720x480)".
I hope the above makes sense and someone may be able to tell me why both the Aspect Ratio and Country/Video Format are different to what I set in EDIT & PRODUCE mode. Thanks

It was a bit confusing to me his explanation, (Google translator does not help much)

Seemed to me that you had created a MPEG2 file compatible with DVD.

When produced the DVD, you select the correct standard for your parents?Creat Disc should select PAL or NTSC.

You should also choose the ratio 16x9 or 4x3.

Sorry errors, update this forum still has problems.

EricJT1006 - Google that Panasonic DMR-BW850 DVD Recorder/Player reveal that it is a pal model made only for Australia. Use Google Translate to see PlaySound's answer. You probably need to update your profile to show that you live in Australia if you are going to ask questions about devices that are non specific to PowerDirector. This way others that live in other part of the world won't give you the wrong answer because recording devices are taxed differently in Europe and the U.S. so the features allowed are different. I wouldn't know what features are allowed in Australia. Only an Australian would know the specifics.

Example: Camcorders in Europe may not have a recording input for video but the U.S. models do, etc.

Hello PlaySound: Sorry I should have mentioned I Live in Australia (I have just updated my profile to say this).
To cut a long story short, I have selected "16:9" in Edit mode and in Produce mode selected "Australia PAL" for the Country/Video Format. However using Nero InfoTool I see this for both MPeg2 and Mpeg4 file formats:-

Nero InfoTool 8.0.1.100Disc Information (E:\)-----------------
Type : DVD Video (DVD-R)
Capacity : 3.32 GB
Layers : 1
Version : 5
Disc size : 12 cm
Video format : NTSC 4:3 (Mpeg 1, 720x480) <-------------- NOTE: Not 16:9 or PAL as I had selected
Region(s) : All
Play Time : 56 minutes (00:56:42)
File System : ISO9660, UDF

Hi EricJT1006 ,
There are additional missing bits of information you'll need to provide.

1. If you right click on the disc drive with your DVD insitu, please extract ALL the video files (copy and paste all to your Hard Disc Drive).
2. Using MediaInfo, Part J in the Guide: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/29701.page
Provide and compare ALL the video files, property details. Give us the info on three of them.

If you've initially selected correctly and created a PAL DVD, my guess is that Nero is giving a false return. If you have used PAL footage to create an NTSC (Standard Definition) video your computer might/could have "fallen over" as each frame would need to be changed from 720x576 to 720x480.

Look more closely at the content - ALL the content.

Dafydd

I guess that you are saying that in Preferences/General 25 fps pal and not ntsc is actually set there and you triple checked that. The dvd created should then be pal when using the create disc module.

tomasc, PlaySound & Dafydd: Sorry, still finding my way around PowerDirector and this Forum. Just noticed I can add attachments. 'They' say a picture (or pictures) is worth a thousand words so I hope these attachments are helpful smile. These have been set since day 1 and not been changed. Hopefully will try to run MediaInfo later today.

tomasc, PlaySound & Dafydd: I replied earlier 10/4/2015 14:09 and included some attachments. I received an email saying, "Your topic "Aspect Ratio and Country/Video Format issues" has received an answer since your last visit. You can access this message using the following link. http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/43299.page#223908.
But all I received was my own reply and could see any indication there were files attached. So I am attaching the same files again.

Dafydd: I have now run MediaInfo and it says (in part) , "Width : 720 pixelsHeight : 480 pixelsDisplay aspect ratio : 4:3Frame rate : 29.970 fpsStandard : NTSC"
These results are contrary to my Preferences which hopefully you will see in the files I have 'tried' to attach to this reply.

I will create a new reply and attach the full MediaInfo results file for you perusal.

Thanks all for you help so far

My suggestion, In Country / video format of disc.

This selected, Australia (PAL) switch to PAL only.

Last item in the countries list.

I did test here in two options and was normal MPEG2 video is in PAL format.

My doubt you are creating the DVD in PD13 (Creat Disc)?

Test here In Create Disc, I selected 4X3 aspect ratio.

Was to create a DVD "NTSC" like you.

More tests to confirm, not much happened.

Thanks Playsound. Will try your suggstions. I video in 16:9 so I naturally want the output to the DVD to be 16:9 (not 4:3)

I think PlaySound got you headed in the right direction. I set my PD12 to your settings shown in your attachments and created a pal 16x9 dvd using the PD12 sample video and jpg files with a menu. Opened Mediainfo and browsed to the folder of the dvd created with my burner. See the attached. All the files are pal 16x9, 720x576, 25 fps in the VIDEO_TS folder.

Not sure why your MediaInfo Result.txt; VIDEO_TS.BUP (menu backup file) and VIDEO_TS.IFO (menu information file) show 720x480, 4x3, ntsc 29.97 fps video. All the other video files show 720x576, 16x9, 25 fps pal. It may be because your settings was 4x3 as PlaySound suggested. I did not test 4x3 pal. If you still have problems then let us know and I do the pal 4x3 test.

Let us know if your problem is solved. laughing

tomasc, PlaySound & Dafydd: Thanks again for your help so far. Unfortunately I have a few other 'pressing' commitments at the moment so more video testing will have to wait I have a Video semi-profesional friend dropping by tomorrow, hopefully between all of us we can get this issue sorted out smile

Hi EricJT1006,
Thank you for the information you have attached. I have been monitoring the thread over the weekend and see you've had some really good assistance from experienced editors.

One observation I'd like to make regarding the data and then a suggestion.

1. The NTSC clip looks to be contained in the Disc Menu.
2. Please can you isolate the menu used - name it, show us a screenshot of the little beggar and tell us if it's from the DZ?

I think the menu looks to have dropped into your Menu selection and if it is NTSC has not been re-rendered (it wouldn't have been) to PAL during the disc write process.

Using your own PAL sample files and the same Menu, can you replicate the issue - create a DVD (Write to a folder)?

I'm guessing here, so if I'm wrong, please don't "bash" me too hard. I look forward to your reply.

Hi Dafydd Bevan: Thanks for your reply and continued interest

Just time for a quick reply but no testing before I go out. Then my friend joins me this afternoon to see what he can find.

Regarding the Disk Menu: Remember I'm new to PowerDirector so you may need to explain things a bit more for me please.

From Create Disc I selected "No Menu" (because on my previous video editing package Pinnacle, I never used a menu (a complication I didnt need/want).
Then I select "Apply to all pages"and
then edit the title - see attachments.

Hope that answers you questions

EricJT1006, boy, that looks like a bug to me. I can mimic your findings. The VIDEO_TS.IFO file is the video manager information file and has the playback info for the entire DVD. This being NTSC for a PAL DVD makes little sense to me. The VIDEO_TS.BUP being NTSC makes sense as it's just a backup copy of IFO and not really needed, but mimics the IFO.
Looks like an option is to use a menu, then VIDEO_TS.IFO is correct at PAL.
