I just ordered and install an upgrade from my older Powerdvd so that I could playback hd/dvd. I installed it on Vista 64. After installation I ran the utility to check for readyness of the system for HD/DVD playback. The only item that is red is the software playback (Cyberlink PowerDVD). If I try to launch the movie I get a worning about disk format. I know the disk works since it doe ok on the xbox 360. I can read the files ok if I explore the disk. I THOUGHT POWERDVD COULD PLAY HD/DVD! I even wwent so far as to install on MCE2005 and different results but the same bottom line IT DOES NOT WORK!

It does work and well. I have a silly question...you made no mentioned of upgrading the disc drive on your computer too. Is it an HD DVD disc drive? Just curious

It does not work! It reports "unknown format". Yes of course it is a HD_DVD drive. Before anyone asks I can open the disk and see the file structure.

Which version of your PDVD?
Probably there is a ptach to fix your problem.

I used PDVD6.6 and I had the same problem before.
But I got new PDVD program from SONY website, It's no problem to play BD title.
Probably you can check relative website to get patch.

Obviously PowerDVD 6.5 (that is your version, right?) did not install correctly on your machine if when you run the CyberLink BD/HD Advisor it says that you don't have an HD DVD player on your machine. I have it installed on mine and it works and BD/HD Advisor sees it.

Try to either contact technical support for suggestions or try to uninstall and reinstall it and see if that helps.

I purchased mine separately as an upgrade on their website. The version is 7.xxx. You obviously got yours with a drive, They are for some reason not selling your version separately. They are however misleading by the way their ads read that in fact they are supplying the HD version.
For the last time I have V7 the latest off their website. The utility for checking for readiness of your system shows everything GREEN except the Powerdvd software. SO this means yes my drive shows up as ready,my video card (ATI7900GT) shows up as ready again everything but their software shows up as ready! Buyers beware!!!!!!!!!! Unless you get this software with a drive (bundled) it will not support HD DVD or Blu-Ray playback at least for now!!!!!! Don’t let these people posting above convince you that if you buy this version on line that it will support HD-DVD play back.

Ahh...okay. Now I see the problem.
- PowerDVD 6.5 plays HD DVDs
- PowerDVD 6.6 is for playing Blu-ray Discs
- PowerDVD 7.0 is the latest version for playing regular DVDs, not HD DVDs. Very confusing...I agree.

And I can see how you thought 7.0 would play your HD DVDs, because the web site says "High-Definition Video Playback." Kind of mis-leading, but I am sure not intentional, because it is referring to the clarity of the DVD video and video files it plays.

Contact the CyberLink store and I am sure they will give you your money back, or even better...give you the version you want. I heard that PowerDVD 7.1 is coming out rather soon...which plays HD DVDs, so if you can wait a little bit...but who can!!!

Hope this clears things up man! At least we know the HD?BD Advisor works well

Here is Cyberlinks answer to my request for a working HD/DVD player.
So the bottom line is that either they are lying and there is no Version of tier software that plays HD-DVD or the people that tell me they have it are lying.

No one is lying to you...tech support person is just misinformed or their English is not good enough. I found out that PowerDVD 6.5 and 6.6 are currently OEM products only, but that will change soon. Still so early in the game...

Check out the link below to see proof that it exists if you still think someone is lying...

I will believe this when I see it!!! There are so many promisses being brocken out there right now. A case in point is the Vbox 164e vapor ware. It has been promised for 7 months and still no actual product. What a joke on the public.
Cyberlink has had plenty of time to develop this software since we are comming out of the longest most intence testing on a new opperating system ever. Youve had more that enough time. And making promisses like an add on will support HD-DVD and BR really doesnt cut it when you are giving working copies to OEMS so they may sell them and then lie to us saying thAT none exsist.

Calm down dude. People here are trying to assist you. HD support is a work in progress, and the products future depends on it's implementation.

I think you need to stay on that POT awhile, you've got a few turds backed up.
