I'm trying to take a snap shot of a video frame and save as JPG file in my pictures folder, but when I try to open it, it won't open, the file is not recognized. Does anyone have a suggestion?

File not recognized messages can occur when more than one software tries to access the file. I suggest you shut down PDR before attempting to alter or change the image file. I also suggest you save the file to a NEW title/name as PDR will still call upon the snapshot to display in a saved project's media library.

In PD13 I saved the file as JPG in my windows picture folder.

I closed all programs as you suggested and even tried to change the name.

I opened the windows library and the file is there as snap shot test.JPG if I click to open the photo viewer, it tells me the file is not recognizable.

I opened Photo director 6 and tried to open the file and it wouldn't open.

I tried Paint.net and it wouldn't open it.

Perhaps I should try a process that your familiar with and one I'm not aware of.

I'm just trying to take a snap shot of a video frame and place it in my still pictures folder to view it as a still picture. I thought this was possible.

When you take the snapshot, does it show up in the Media window? Are you using the camera icon under the preview window?

In Preferences file., change the format of the captured image (just temporarily) to see it that image is captured and if you can open it.

I assume you are using 2D rather than 3D video? .

I do not remember having problems with save video image (snapshot).
Your problem is with any photo extracted from the video or only one?
My setup is in Preferences File .JPG
Box Use original video size... OFF AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3
SSD SUV400S37240G / 2-HD WD 1TB
AMD Radeon R9 270 / AOC M2470SWD

I have reviewed preferences: File name is "Snap shot.jpg," Destination is "File," check mark is in box for original size.

The process I use: I drag the video from library window to time line; I click to view individual frames; I find the frame I want to take a picture of; Then I take a snap shot with the camera icon below the display window; The picture appears in the library window as "Snap shot.jpg."

I remove the original video clip from the library so that only the jpg file remains; I save the jpg file useing "Save as" in my widows picture folder. Then I close PD13. When I try to open it the file, I get the message that it is not recognized.

What am I doing that is wrong?

Aha ! What you are saving is the PowerDirector project file !

There is no need to re-save the jpg image if you have captured it. It will show in both the media and in the folder where you selected to save it.

Note the folder is where you have the output folder. You can change this but remember to change it back to where you want any video projects saved.

Note 2 .. I tried to save it to the clipboard but it didn't seem to be simple. I'll have to work on it. I thnk that the clipboard in W8.1 is not like that in Windows 7.
