I am trying to convert all my old DVDs to files on my computer so I can watch without needing to keep using external optical drive.

Here is what I noticed after I ripped an episode of X-Files. I kept the aspect ratio to original.. and noticed there are 2 sets of vertical lines on both the left and right hand side of the video. Is there a way to fix this? I burnt it to MP4 format...

Is thew partial screen bothering you or it is truly the vertical bars? Do you see them with a different player?

What is the original aspect ratio of the video? If it is not 4 by 3 or 16 by 9, it may be a wide screen format with side bars.

Where did you get the old DVDs? Are they copy protected? Did someone else make copies and give them to you? .

I believe your conversion may be the problem. Use a professional converter for the ripping again, may help.
