Recurring problem with Frozen PIP Objects

I had the same problem in November. See attached .wmv Screen Capture. Previously I was able to correct it by using Revo Uninstaller & CCCleaner to uninstall PD13. That method not working this time.

I imagine maybe one of the patches from January or early February caused the problem to return. I don't know what is causing it really.

I'm running the latest build 2604.

What is your Video Card?

Is the Driver up to date. If an Nvidia card what model and do you need the older version.

Below quote from:
http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultra/spec_en_US.html
PLEASE NOTE: For users of NVIDIA cards who have updated to graphics driver 340.43 or later, the video hardware acceleration feature in PowerDirector is no longer available. To re-enable hardware acceleration, please download and install an earlier driver.

It may be helpful if you posted your Computer Dxdiag.txt information.

Thank you for the replies & suggestions. I've rolled back my GeForce GTX 650 Driver to 337.88 from May 2014. Everything was working fine with a much newer NVidia Driver but for the sake of eliminating this "bug" I rolled back to no avail. The animated objects still don't work but everything else seems normal. I produced a video over the weekend, which is when I "stumbled" across the return of this problem. I've done quite a few uninstalls & CCCleanups trying to get a complete removal of PD13 before reinstalling each time.

What puzzles me is that the PowerDirector Icon stays on my taskbar at the exact same location through it all. Makes me think there are other configuration remnants that are causing or keeping this anomaly from being eradicated. Currently only have PD 13.0.2123.0 installed. The 2604 build didn't correct the problem on previous installs soooooo.

I have an Intel i7 960@3.20GHz with 9GB RAM running Win7 Home Premium.

What can I delete from Users Appdata/Roaming/Cyberlink PowerDirector/13 folder? I'm trying to avoid having to reinstall everything I downloaded from DirectorZone while getting rid of any configuration files, etc that deal with Pip Objects.

If you have a stand alone Powerdirector (not a Director Suite), then remove the Contents Packs in Windows Control panel > Programs and Features, that would remove most all of your PIP objects, FX and Particles.

You would be left with nothing but the basic program. Few other contents.

I uninstalled the Program and all of my Content Packs and manually deleted config files & library files etc. in appdata local & Roaming folders.

I reboot Windows, reinstall PD13 and it's still messed up.

Mind boggling that all the PIPobjects were working at Christmas and now it's as if they are never going to work again.

I'm out of ideas.

I rolled back my video driver to 337.88 to get one compatible with the Hardware Acceleration in PD13.

I'm going to try the driver I was running when all was working well. Fingers crossed.

Hi Paul,
I don't see that deleting all your "stuff" or the Roaming folder contents would assist you in resolving your issue especially after you've stated that at Christmas time everything was fine. So what was added/changed after that time on your system?
Have you read the Nvidia tweak post? http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/42357.page Please have a read. I'm using a slightly earlier driver than you are and I haven't applied the tweak. I have a different card.
The issue here is likely based around your card and hardware acceleration, settings in Preferences. What are your selections in Preferences/Hardware Acceleration.

I note you have a Pinnacle, ArcSoft, ATI etc drivers, perhaps you're getting a software conflict. What have you installed onto your computer since Christmas?

Fishing for ideas and cause

I just changed to Nvidia driver 344.75.

Hardware Acceleration: Open CL is unchecked, Harware Accel. is On.

This may be completely irrelevant, but how does the PD13 icon manage to return to the exact same spot on my Taskbar if I'm completely uninstalling the program and doing the various scans for remnants?

As far as wha has changed on my system since Christmas: Plenty:a Pinnacle Studio 18 Patch, Installation of Sony Play Memories Home, Sony Action Cam Movie Creator, Norton Security installation & a couple of PD13 patches & 3 NVidia updates. Any one of which could have potentially messed things up I imagine.

Check Open CL as well.

Icon in task bar is likely present due to the icon image remains on your system. Right click on the icon/shortcut and check the link's local address and see where the link is pointing to - and see if there is any data or folder of that name present. Does it point to PDR13? Icon in the task bar isn't much to worry about.

Activating Open CL & restarting PD13 made no difference. I attached another Screen Capture of the anomaly.

I deleted all the 13.0 Folders in appdata before installing again. At least this time it asked me to Register PD13 this time.

Dafydd,

I uninstalled the Sony Action Cam Software on the hunch perhaps it was causing the trouble. It made no difference.

I've uninstalled PD13 & searched for & deleted remnants too many times to count. Each time upon reinstalling PD13 I get the same result.

Could this be a DirectX problem? Is that still a thing? I'm trying to understand what could be interfering with the display of these graphics and of course "why is no one else experiencing this". I stay current on drivers, updates & Security Patches, etc.

Knowing this happened shortly after I bought PD13 & solving it now drives me to viewing this ordeal as a Quest. Quite like That Hobbit fellow.

Thank you for the help, let me know if you think of any additional ideas.

Thanks,
Paul

P.S. I just noticed the Screen Cap I sent last night showed nothing at all. I did not watch it before attaching.

I think I know what the problem is.
I can duplicate your condition exactly.

You seem to be in a PAL country and have your Timeline frame rate set to 25 fps.

Your image on the timeline is 8 frames, not 8 seconds.

Check your Preferences > Editing. Set your Image files to 10.0 seconds, Click OK. I think it is currently set to 0.3 (8 frames).
Then drag a new instance of the TF_Transparent globe to the timeline.

Your PIP should now run for 10 seconds.

If you actually want 8 seconds, set the Image Files in Preferences > Editing to 08.0 seconds.

Very observant Carl!

That globe animation is made up of 150 separate frames, so it's designed to play for 5 seconds (NTSC). It's also designed to loop when the duration is extended.

Carl's observation is directly related to your original problem, where PiP objects are skipping even when viewed from the library. If you have your image duration preferences set to (say) 0.2 seconds that's what you get when you preview the object from the library!

There's a little screen capture attached.

All those uninstalls for nothing

Cheers - Tony

Carl - Superhero!

Observant is spot on.

I wonder if installing the latest patch reset the duration to .3?

In addition to all the uninstalls & the hours spent therein I also dropped $15 to renew Advanced System care for access to the Deep Registry Scan I'd convinced myself would be saving the day. Instead it was Carl.

Thank you to everyone that offered assistance.

I've got quite a bit of reinstallation work ahead.

I doubt, that all of the uninstalls and installs effected the location for PD's preferences. I am not sure where the preferences are stored.

My guess is in some User Folder. User Folders are not affected by uninstalls. They are for some Installs.
Tony (Ynotfish) may know where the Preferences are stored.
