Transitions to video with audio alters timing

I have a series of video clips and I also have voice over. If I time the video to the voice over it looks fine but then when I add a transition, it seems to reduce the length of the video so that my timings with the voice over are out.

I am using a fade transition that covers end and start of two video segments.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Steve Thanks
Steve

Add transitions in first and then add the voice audio.

Or use transition CROSS does not displace the video, but the video has audio will add fade Out / In the junction of clips.

If want to remove only the audio transition, need only lock the video track during removal.

Hi Playsound

Thank you for responding.

Audio with the video was muted and I added voice over and background sound.

I had my script for the voice over and I recorded the words, then I stretched stills to fit the voice over or I chained together video clips to make up the voice over time.

I then added the transitions on the video and the timings went out of the window. As you say, I should add the transitions first.

Not sure what you mean by CROSS?

I think I need to have some places where audio and video line up and I can lock them so that any changes prior to them do not affect the timing of the video to voice over from that point. Is that possible?

Thanks

It is a type of Transitions.

You can set the default transitions in Preferences.

As folks here note, CROSS or OVERLAP have different characteristics. CROSS does not alter timing. Here's the explanation...

· Cross Transition: when using a cross transition, the two clips are side by side on the timeline and the transition acts like a bridge between them. For example, if you add a two second transition between two five second clips, the total duration is 10 seconds. The transition begins at the four second mark of the first clip, and ends at the one second mark of the second clip.

· Overlap Transition: when using an overlap transition, the two clips overlap while the transition is taking place. This allows for parts of the two clips to play over each other during the transition. Using the same example as above, the total duration is eight seconds, with the transition playing for two seconds over both clips.

To set a transition's behavior, do this:
Note: all audio transitions have the overlap transition behavior. The cross transition behavior is not supported for audio transitions.

1. Click on the transition between two clips.
2. Click the Modify button to change to the other transition type, or right-click on the transition and then select Modify Transition Behavior.
3. In the Transition Behavior dialog, set the behavior of the transition.
