Thanks for all the info and links.
I was wondering more about the Power Director software itself? If I can use PD for professional use?

Quote: 1. iTunes are to be used only on the 5 devices that are registered to an account. That means no commercial usage.

2. Power Director cannot be used for commercial purposes:

Please see the bold text above. For further enquiries on commercial use of PowerDirector you should contact CyberLink via support online links. http://www.cyberlink.com/support/index.html You are asking a question that no member here is in a position to give or know any more than the links and the license states.

The ones I get from Vimeo for a $1.99. I can use on the web but I can't make money from them. I did paid $29.99 for one that I could hand out 5000 DVDs.

Yesterday day I uploaded a video to YouTube. That morning I went on Vimeo music store. I got a song that was over 5 minutes long. They sent me the license in a email. Right after I got it up on YouTube it got flag for third party content. I disputed it. I copy and pasted the date, price and license number in the dispute. Now the flag have been removed. Thanks again for all the info from everyone. Please forgive me for being naive, I just did not realize there are so many moving parts to this minefield to complete a video.
I truly thought once I bought the software and paid for or created some music along with the clips that I shoot, it would be clear sailing after that.

Silly me

You are not silly at all!

In fact; you took the trouble of asking about it, hoping to find a solid answer.
There are billions of phones and cameras out there- and it seems most people now
have a piece of software to do a little editing or uploading straight away to YT.
To make money out of “multimedia” today; one has to be pretty professional and work
hard on a full time basis, knowing complex software and have creativity to display.
The rest of us are nursing a hobby, giving our work and skills away for free or for a box
of chocolate.
Even if PD has a lot of possibilities and is fun, it is a software for the home user.
The marketing angle for PD13 is explicitly saying so – which is a little different from
earlier releases. There have been voices from time to time asking for a “pro” edition,
but by now it’s probably fair to say that CL doesn’t want to go there.
The largest segment of customers seems to be the home user, I guess we have to settle
for that for now.

Just something.

I agree with everything Nina said, and I originally thought things would be straightforward as well.

You're benefitting from many members' (sometimes painful) experiences here, and the best thing I can say is to just try and do the right thing based on what you know. Unfortunately, you should also be prepared to learn at least one difficult lesson at some point... That's the nature of copyrighted work in the digital age.

I often wonder... what if the wheel was copyrighted too? Or the boat? The plants that we eat? Or firsts songs and stories?
Humans evolved by sharing knowledge for free.

Seems to me that lately that the greed got in the way of evolution. Nothing is free anymore.

I am just trying to market a new product for my business and make some Do It Yourself videos. My focus is marketing, and education not selling video.
Not sure how that fits in?

Chances are nobody is going to bother you, and you'll keep those odds high if you use royalty-free music and give credits as stated in the licensing terms. If you use commercial music in your products, that's when you're more likely to be noticed because every member of BMI, ASCAP, etc. is required to inform their organization about possible copyright infringement whenever they see it. It doesn't matter if it's from a church, school, non-profit or commercial business.

But enough of the scare tactics - just concentrate on launching your business and keep all the docs and emails whenever you license content and you'll be fine

This thread was started about music, but a few post talk about using Power Director software itself? If I can use PD for professional use?

I knew I has seen on CyberLink YouTube channel. This video about JS Studios uses CyberLink Director Suite for film production. People might remember John Schneider.

I believe we generally agree that you can use PD for professional use. However, the codecs are licensed for home use only and some require additional fees for commercial use. Youtube processes you video anyways and I don't think it is a concern. __________________________________
