Can I edit mpg files and still save them as mpg?

I have many clips taken on a recent trip to Africa. I have them arranged in several folders, such as Elephants, Cheetahs, People, etc. I would like to "clean up" the clips and have them ready so that I can quickly add them to Powerpoint presentations etc. without a lot of extra work at that time. Is this possible with Power Director? I have used the software several times and made movies for You Tube, Facebook, or burned them successfully to dvd, so I am fairly familiar with the product, however, no matter what I try to do it seems the clips are changed to another file type.
Any advice on how I can accomplish this?

In Produce of Powerdirector there is the MPEG-2 in various resolutions.
MPEG-2 outputs as .mpg.
Just choose the resolution that is close to your original Videos.

Powerdirector 11 does support Intelligent SVRT, that can create a profile that matches your input Video.
mpg is supported.

I must be missing an important step. I am importing a clip, editing it, and choosing mpeg-2 in the Produce screen. I then click on the "start" button and the rendering is completed. When I then go to the File drop-down I have no Save or Save-As; Save Project or Save Project As are my only choices and both of them save the clip as a movie project format.

Can you tell me what I am missing?

You do not save the movie. You have to produce it. __________________________________

When you Produce the Movie, it places the rendered movie (produced) in the folder defined in Preferences > File > Export Folder.
Or you can click the Browse button (In Produce) and choose your own folder and file name.

If you look in that folder you should find your produced movie.

Did Powerdirector put a Thumbnail in the Media Room after you produced the movie than when back to EDIT?

Ok, I'm on track now. I have successfully edited a clip and saved it as an mpg file in the folder of my choice.

Hi, Mona, Dead easy, ain't it? I produce ALL my videos to MPG(tried AVCHD once, but ONLY once, took ages to produce a half-hour clip...never do that again, nosiree!) After producing, I tuck my clips nicely away in folders to await a burn to DVD(got several that I shot last year, all edited and just sitting there waiting for me to find time to put 'em on disc!). Three cheers for Power Director! Hip-Hip....
