24 fps video (Nikon D90) support?

I'm trying to use the trial of PowerDirector 7 to edit together a couple of videos I shot with the Nikon D90. The video produced from the camera is at 24 fps and when I try to add it to a project, I get a warning saying that the tv format does not match the project the settings (I have the project set for ntsc). When PD7 attempts to correct the format, the video playback becomes very choppy and the sound it really messed up (pretty much just bursts of static). I can get around the sound issue be extracting the audio and adding it in separately, but I can't find anyway to deal with a 24 fps source video. This is my first time using PD7 (I'm trying to find a video editor that I like and will work with all my video devices), so I have no experience with it at all. I tried using the bundled help/index/contents but there was no help there. I also tried a search of the forums here and could find no info on getting 24 fps source clips into PD7. Does anyone know if it is possible? If so, how can it be done?

Hi Doug

I downloaded a sample clip and it runs fine in PD with my set up (pretty high spec PC). Your problem might be your PC configuration. What is it?

A drawback of PD is not having the ability to manipulate the frame rate when rendering to a file. Use PAL as this is the closest match to 24fps.

I rendered using MPEG2 720p profile and it looks smooth playback on the PC.

The machine (laptop) is fairly decent: Dual Core 2.26 Ghz, 4GB (3GB usable in WinXP), Nvidia 9800 GTS/512 MB and PD is able to render my Canon HG21 AVCHD. I have a quad core desktop I plan to try PD on next.

PD is able to playback the D90 24 fps clips with no problem. It is when I add them to the timeline to splice them together that PD seems to be limited (e.g. audio got messed up, choppy playback). Do you have the link to the sample clip? I'm wondering if the sample clip has some different properties than that from the output of my camera. I was hoping that PD had some sort of 3:2 pulldown conversion for use on the 24 fps source so that I could create a ntsc output file/project and not use pal. So far I have not found a way to do this in PD, however, a competitor product from another company so far has had no problem with my 24, 30 and 60 fps sources, but I like the PD interface and capture options better. I'll keep playing and see how it all turns out.

i also have a nikon d90 and i just got recently a cyberlink dvd suite 7 in which part of it is the power director program. now i imported my avi video from my d90 to power director, all i got is blank. it don't even play in the preview. now adding it to the timeline would also give me a warning that tv format doesn't match. doug, if you'll find a way how to do it, please post it here. thanks.

Hi, The post here refers to the FULL version PowerDirector 7 whereas the version you have has less capabilities. It would be worth you upgrading to either PowerDirector 7 Deluxe or Ultra.

TV warning is just a info warning message relating to the differing frame rate, not a big deal.
