Authoring project takes 5-9 hrs???

Well, so I'm using PDR 12 & have been working on a number of projects. Early on, the authoring process would last maybe a max of 2 hours & the burning would only take maybe 10 minutes max. Well, in the last two weeks, my authoring times are insane. Bear in mind, I'm burning direct to DVD although I did try burning to a folder instead & the excessive authoring times are the same.

I deleted some files to make some space on my HDD, just in case that was the issue. No change. Turned off shadow files. No change. I kill all other apps & disable my wireless. No change.

I figure there's probably some driver conflicts or issues with codecs or the fact that I have multiple versions of PDR installed but I no longer have the original discs for PDR 9 & my PDR 10 was an OEM install on my laptop. I'm afraid to uninstall them because if I PDR 12 falls short, then I've lost both previous versions.

Here's an overview:

01 - Windows 8.1
02 - PDR Ultimate 12
03 - SR# VDE141006-01
04 - MPEG Video
05 - Once the video is edited, the authoring process can take anywhere from 5-9hrs!!! It doesn't matter whether the video is 1 or 3 hrs long. I do apply noise filtering/enhancement both at 40, as well as white balance & sharpness at 10. I also apply overlap transitions in some places.
06 - Windows Defender
07 - See attachment for list of codecs
08 - PDR 9 & PDR 10
09 - Nero Burning ROM 10, DeepBurner, MediaMonkey & WMP
10 - Maxell Printable DVD-R & DVD+R

Hoping this all makes sense lol. Thanks in advance for tackling my problem

What is the resolution of the source video you are using. like HD 1080p60, etc. Is the resolution of the DVD video you want to create 720x480? It that is the case, then the authoring times look normal to me for your i3 2.4ghz cpu.

The source files are 720x480. I can't understand why the huge difference in authoring time though. To go from 2hrs & suddenly jump to almost 10hrs two week ago. I would think this would have been a problem from the start & if that were the case, I'd have no reason to be alarmed. I do appreciate your response & don't mean to question your knowledge. Just hoping I can understand why there's such a radical change in behavior with this application.

J Kevin:

Welcome to the PD12 Forum. I took a quick look at your dxdiag file. As noted by tomasc, an i3 processor will struggle with lots of enhancements. Moreover, you have an onboard Intel Graphics 4000 chipset that only has 32 MB of dedicated video RAM. Note the specifications below for minimum requirements (these are for PD13, but the VRAM requirement is unchanged from PD12):

I cannot explain why you were formerly able to author/burn so quickly. I am surprised that you could author/burn a 3-hour DVD, with multiple enhancements, in the time you state was required previously, given the limitations of your hardware.

I would be happy that your burns are succeeding. Sorry that I am unable to offer any concrete suggestions as to how to improve your burn speeds on your current hardware or explain why it was formerly so fast ...

Have a great day.

My suggestion, save your project video file in Produce choose a compatible profile with the DVD you will create.

Add this MPEG2 file saved in the timeline, run the SVRT analysis, should show green for the profile that will create DVD, this should ensure that there will be no re-rendering to create DVD.

This method of creating the first MPEG2 file, which allows you to monitor occurring problem, if any, so you can fix the modify what is causing the delay.

If it is established that the problem is in the DVD creation, may be the disc, the recorder or PD12. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3

I have experienced a similar phenomenon producing .m2ts in which render times actually went up during production, which, of course, means the project never completed. I found some partial solutions:

1. Removing all non-PDR editing applications and any third-party codecs would work for awhile but the problem has reappeared after several renders.

2. Rolling back or reinstalling (in my case) Win 7/x64 SP1 w/o updates and only installing PDR 12 as the sole editor appears to work.

3. Installing PDR 13 trial version may work, since it may overwite troublesome codecs.
