You must update Cyberlink PowerDVD now to continue playback of this content.

When playing blu rays, I receive the following message: "You must update Cyberlink PowerDVD now to continue playback of this content." Clicking Yes causes an update message to appear, then the program cycles through those messages again, but he discs will not play.

There have been many, many threads about this, yet no solution has been offered.

There is no way I am giving Cyberlink my money if this is some kind of forced upgrade scam.

Version: 10.0.5426.52

OS: Win 7 64 Bit

Device: Asus 12b1ST - latest driver version confirmed.

I've already done that. If I hadn't done that, I would not have the version number listed above.

The problem still persists.

Yes, I upgraded to the absolute latest version of OEM 10. There is no newer version. "the thread" is not very specific. Is there some other solution?

Hi,
the thread offers a free PowerDVD 11.....

If you have PowerDVD 10 Ultra retail version installed, you can click here to download and install an update to PowerDVD 11 Ultra build 5012.

To my knowledge, this was installed by the builder, so it is 10 OEM, not retail. It does not say Ultra in the interface.

I have confirmed that the version 11 will not install, because mine is OEM. The infuriating thing about all this is that it was working just fine until I put in a newer blu ray disc. Then all of them stopped working.

Same problem, could anyone offer a working solution to stop the error message?

I haven't seen them do so yet. He just asks the same questions over and over again, ie, did you update your optical disk driver, did you look at this thread, and then when he goes through all of those, he stops responding.

So it's basically a money making campaign for Cyberlink: first they sell OEM licenses to PC builders, then after a couple of years they abandon the version that they sold, sabotage it, and try to force OEM users to pay for their software again. No thanks.

The program was "sabotaged" by the computer manufacturer who is responsible for its performance. You may not like it but it is standard for the industry.

Has no one gone to the computer manufacturer and asked for an update (or discount) for the OEM version. .

There have been zero changes to hardware, or drivers. One day, PowerDVD connected to Cyberlink's server, and stopped playing blu-rays. The computer manufacturer has nothing to do with it. This is all Cyberlink. How would the computer manufacturer have an update to Cyberlink's software? Discount what? The OEM version is already installed, that's the whole point. I paid for this software when I bought my computer. Now Cyberlink is telling me to buy it again.

You're right, I don't like it, and neither do all the other people that started threads here for the exact same issue.

You didn't buy the software; it came with your computer purchase for use on that computer only. The computer manufacture modified it or had it modified for their specifications.

It is typically not upgradeable but you can sometimes qualify for a discount.

You live in a real world! Even though you don't like it. Complain all you want but that will not change things - sorry.

Did you talk to your computer manufacturer as I asked?

You said that there were no changes to your computer ; not even Windows updates?

If this just started happening, use Windows restore to restore your computer back to the time when it worked. Start adding in the Windows updates and other new programs, updates, etc until it stops working. You will have figured out what caused the problem. .

That is utter and complete nonsense. If this was custom software, how did I download the latest patch from Cyberlink? I really don't think you know as much as you're pretending to. OEM software does not mean customized software. It's software that is purchased with a single license and installed on many machines. Yes, I absolutely did pay for the software. It was not free. And no, the computer builder will not pay for an upgrade to the retail product, (which is what Cyberlink is trying to force) and it's not reasonable to expect them to. And no, Windows Update did not break the software, for crying out loud. Cyberlink's own lack of response to this issue is the best answer we can expect.

Look at your sales receipt and tell us what it says about the cost of that software.

Some computer manufacturers do sell the commercial product but it would not be listed as an OEM. The version would tell us if it were an OEM or the commercial product. Please provide us with the version number.

I have tried to be nice but you are coming off as a person who believes he has special privileges. It appears that you won't listen to reason and especially what I am telling you. Feel free to wait until you get someone else who has real knowledge. Now I know the reason that Cyberlink is not responding.
