Fuzzy You Tube videos

I'm running PD 11 Ultra V-11.0.0.3625 on Windows 7 Prof. Comcast high speed internet connection, and their newest Modem.
My video card has latest updates.

I just finished a 15 min. video and published it as... MPEG-4 1920x1080/30p (13 Mbps)
File... XXX.mp4
I uploaded it to You Tube and when I play it, it plays ok, but the video looks real fuzzy.
The quality settings only show... 360p, 240p, and Auto.

If I play the XXX.mp4 file on my VLC Media player or Windows Media player, the video is nice and sharp.

Is there something I'm doing wrong to get a sharper result from my You Tube videos?

Are you sure that you uploaded the 1920x1080 version of your video to Youtube?

It sometimes takes Youtube a bit of time to process the upload. Have you checked now that Youtube had the time to process?

Hi Loren C -

Aside from processing time, available bandwidth will play a big part in picture quality.

Here, on a not-super fast network, a video can look crystal clear one day & blurry the next... even though it's always crisp & sharp played directly from the PC.

The YT quality setting (gear icon) will default to 360p unless you tag the video with "yt:quality=high" (which only forces 720p playback).

The available settings reflect to resolution of the uploaded video.

Cheers - Tony

I created my video as a mp4 file with these settings.
MPEG-4 2K 2048x1080/30p (40Mbps)

Note: I get an error message when trying to use any settings lower than this for mpeg-4 ????
EX: 1920x1080/30p (13Mbps)
1280x720/30p (9Mbps)
etc.

After doing some research, I came across adding ( hd=1 ) or ( fmt=18 ) to the end of the video address.
It seems to help. On my computer, when viewing the video, with that added to end of address, I can select 1080p speed and pushing the redraw [F5] on keyboard. Then it seems to play at 1080p ok. ( I do have to play around with the [F5] key and restarting the video to make the 1080p setting stick?)

BTW: This is the video... FWIW http://youtu.be/xF-3_jQFmU4fmt=18

Hi Loren C -

You're right. It's fuzzy.

Aside from what YouTube is doing to your video, there are a couple of other contributing factors:
1. You're riding through trees with fine branches and that is difficult to capture cleanly
2. The slow transition points (fades) during motion can cause a bit of pixelation

The only similar clips I had to test were shot from a car - but same "drive by" thing. They're straight off the camera - split & prefix/postfix fades inserted.

1080p version - http://youtu.be/J4tzmszILXI
720p version - http://youtu.be/AwZ8XOelmdA
► If you watch at 360p or 480p, you'll see the issue with transitions
► You'll also see that the YT quality settings reflect the uploaded resolution
► and yes - both videos look cleaner played directly on my PC

I'm a little intrigued by your statement:
Note: I get an error message when trying to use any settings lower than this for mpeg-4 ????

What error message are you getting? Whatever it is, you shouldn't be getting it!

Cheers - Tony

Tony
This is the message I get if I try to produce the lower resolutions as mentioned in my prior post.

"Production unsuccessful. Please ensure your graphics card driver is up-to-date, and update to the latest version of Windows Media Player or QuickTime software. You can also try to output the production in a different video format."

However, I found why I was not able to do this.
I had to un-check "Fast video rendering technology" [ ] box at lower left of Produce window.
After un-checking, I am able to produce the lower quality settings in MPEG-4.

You said my video was fuzzy. Did you try to play it at the You Tube 1080p setting, and not a lower setting?

Thanks for the input.

I was experiencing the same problem with my first PD14 youtube upload. I unsuccessfully tried multiple production settings and formats before finding this thread. As mentioned above, I waited a bit longer for youtube production time, refreshed, and HD options finally appeared on my video.

I'm writing to ask how to tag the video as described above. I've viewed the video in 1080p and now it defaults to that setting on my PC, but I'm not certain if thats how it's viewed by others. Dell XPS 8700
