I just don't get it

By PM, tomasc has been helping me with this issue - but it remains unresolved... even though I don't expect anyone to care.

Following the advice tomasc offered, today I powered down my PC & detached the power cord. While I was crawling around under the desk, I pulled the side panel off the box, gave it a good clean with compressed air, reseated everything... you know the routine...

When I started up again, I fully expected my issue to be resolved. No

Whether it's a standard .WAV file or a SmartSound track it's still the same. I did a screen capture of the whole sorry episode & here's a screenshot from it.

The only possible variable I can think of is that Camtasia Studio is "hearing" the media library audio and timeline audio differently. In real life, I can hear he difference - and my ears aren't the best. I said my ears aren't the best

Cheers - Tony

Tony,

I think that the timeline audio is always at a lower level than the Library audio level.

The question is what does the Produced audio level end up being?

Your screen shot of the timeline audio looks very normal to me.

My hearing is not what it used to be either.

When I was in my twenties, High frequencies were very easy to hear, in my 70s I do not hear much above about 1000-1500 Hz.
Actor voices on TV are hard to understand without captions.

Hi ynotfish

I do not know if I understand your problem.

I did just a quick test here, I opened AudioDirector5, it shows the wave in real time while recording.

Added sample, Boats.wma in library and dragged to the timeline.

In AudioDirector5 Press REC, in PD13 Play Boats.wma in library.

After Play Boats.wma on the timeline, noting the wave cooledit was very similar and also for my ears very little difference.

On my pc, timeline audio always play at a lower volume level than the library audio level with stereo audio video material because I choose 5.1 in preference. To make the audio level the same, I have to set in prefs. audio setting to match what is in the library like stereo for 2-ch. The audio volume level then will be the same for both library and timeline.

Decided to test whether or not setting project preferences affect the stereo audio on what is produced. Selected a youtube video with both bass and female vocals. Trimmed the clip to about 10 seconds, produced a wmv, extracted a wav audio from it, and then put all 3 on the timeline and produced the final one. Both original clips are stereo and produced clips are in stereo. Project settings in prefs do not affect what I choose to produce.

Played both one after the other with vlc and hear no volume difference at all on the 2 videos with different audio settings in prefs. Attached are the two videos produced.

I always thought is was just me. A few versions ba k I used to have to export all audio and boost the volume. Otherwise I could barely hear the finished video. __________________________________

Jaime-esque - Smartsound and .wav are 2-ch audio formats in Tony's post. In order to hear the same volume on both the library clips and it on the timeline, all I have to do is to to set it to stereo in user preferences on my pc.

I do believe Tony has the audio volume difference problem on one of his pc. My test above was only to prove to myself that the user pref. audio settings has no effect on the produced file regardless of the audio volume you hear on the timeline.

Tony - One quick test you might want to try is to ensure the problem is not the windows operating system is to run as administrator from a command prompt: sfc /scannow. See this link: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us

tomasc!

I'm beginning to understand why you get the big money!

That was it - the Stereo/5.1 setting in Preferences. Mine was (past tense) set to 5.1 because that's the audio setup om the PC. That probably also explains the "inconsistent" posts by Carl & PlaySound above.

My issue was never with the produced file. As you've found, it makes no significant difference. BUT it certainly makes a difference to editing & screen captures.

Thanks so much once again.

Cheers - Tony
