Is there a Star Wars intro text template?

Good day to all

I have very recently acquired PowerDirector 13 Ultra (among other Cyberlink products) and I am trying to make some videos for me. Somewhere in youtube.com I have seen a small tutorial for "How to do Star Wars Perspective Scrolling by using Cyberlink PowerDirector", but apparently, this tutorial is not complete and therefore, not very informative. On the other hand, it may refer to an older version of PowerDirector. The link is the following:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0q-g1qQAII

Can somebody let me know:
- if I really can do Star Wars Perspective Scrolling with PowerDirector 13?
- if there is an intro.txt file (as the one showed in that small tutorial video), and where this is located?
- any other method to do the Star Wars intro effect?

Thank you

Hi Panagiotis1 -

All you need to do is open the Title room & look under the Effects tag to find Perspective Scroll.

Drag it to the timeline and modify it as you wish.

There are a few variants on DirectorZone, like this one http://directorzone.cyberlink.com/detail/14276

Thank you so much, Tony for your helpful reply. I found both templates.

I liked more the second one (Star Scroll II) for its impressive background and I started using it in a new project. However, when I previewed my text writing, I saw the characters moving very-very fast (at preview, of course). So fast, that they are very hard to be read.

I have tried to see if there is a way to control and adjust the scroll speed, but I have not been able to find it.

Is there a way to control it, indeed? If yes, can someone tell me how to do it?

Thanks in advance

Panagiotis

The way I use is to stretch (increase time) the text block on the timeline

Hi Panagiotis1 -

As Playsound said, increasing the duration of the title will slow it down. The only other way is to take out some lines of text.

Longer title duration or less text = slower scroll speed
Shorter title duration or more text = faster scroll speed.

They are the only two controls at our disposal.

This toot might help - http://youtu.be/8HQiCChgxUY

Thank you, both, for your advice. I streched the duration and it worked fine.

I really appreciate your help.

After having dealt successfully with the basics, here are two more questions:

(1) Having seen the scrolling text I made on my screen, I noticed that the resolution is relatively low. Since I intend to use it in a small video production, which will contain HD video, I was hoping that I could make the intro with a resolution, at least equal or compatible with that of a DVD, if not a High Definition one.

However, when I previewed the scrolling text, the characters are passing from my (computer) screen with a noticeable (obviously visible) low resolution, which I have not been able to increase.

So my question is simple:
Is this the only resolution available for a perspective scrolling intro and the only way to make it, or it can be refined?

(2) Is there any audio plug-in for this intro, containing the well known music theme of the Star Wars films, which I shall be able to attach in that intro I made? If yes, where can I find it?

Thanks again, for your help and understanding.

Panagiotis

P.S.:
I understand that perhaps some questions, like the above I posted, may be answered in the PowerDirector Manual, but occasionally, there are times that reading 345 pages to find what you are looking, becomes a no-option.

By searching the Net, I was able to find the John Williams Star Wars main theme and download it in an MP3 form. I hope that I will be able to attach it on my project. However, I still need to know if there is a similar audio plug-in, ready to be imported to a project, like mine.

Thanks again.

"However, when I previewed the scrolling text, the characters are passing from my (computer) screen with a noticeable (obviously visible) low resolution, which I have not been able to increase. "

If you are, literally, judging the quality of the final video from the preview screen, you may be misleading yourself. The preview is often a "downgraded" resolution to allow you to edit expeditiously. Try making a short clip of the the title, producing it, then view the final result. It may be a big improvement over what you've seen. Regards,
Dan

Thank you very much, Dan, for your very useful reply. As you understand, I could not know this.

What should I assume about the intro quality?

Does it depend on the quality of the actual video, that follows?
Or it retains a standard resolution, regardless of the quality of the finally produced video?

What I mean to say is if, for example, I attach at that intro a video file that has been recorded with an HD Camera, or alternatively, a video file recorded with an SD (DV) camera, will this affect the intro quality or not?

I don't know the answer. I think you're asking what happens when you mix different quality/resolution videos, correct? Rather than guess, I'll let someone who knows answer that. In the meantime, you could just put a couple of different quality 30-second clips together and produce them, then examine the output. Regards,
Dan

I do not go into detail on this subject.

But I have a hunch about quality of the final video.

I whenever possible use the progressive HD or FullHD mode, and also the video for text background.

I have the impression that PD works best in progressive mode.

Note: This difference may have to do with my video card I'm not sure.

To answer your question. Try this test.
1. Set your preview quality to full HD and use full screen preview.
2. Place that perspective scroll overlay over the HD video. Hit space bar for play and pause to see.
3. Start a new project using a very low quality sd video clip.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 above and see for yourself.
Post back here with the result you see.

Render those 2 projects at the resolution you want them to be and again post back the results you see.

Hello again and thanks for your advice.

Well, it seems that my concern about the resolution and quality of the intro video had no basis at all. I did a simple thing (it's true that learning is a continuous process that takes a life time!): I saved the intro video, using the "Production" menu at a separate file in my storage HDD, with a pre-defined resolution, similar to the standard of a Bluray Disc (1980x1080 @ 24fps). Then I played it and the result was a wonderful picture of excellent quality and resolution.

So, it depends how the user defines the resolution of the video at the production stage.

No, my friend I am not. This is clearly a video for my own use. Thanks for asking, anyway. It seems to be a very interesting contest, though.
