Issue with H.265 MP4

I'm having a problem with H.265 output, and hoping someone can offer some suggestions.

It was working fine prior to the last update to PD13 Live, and I haven't made any other changes to my PC, but now it generates the file, but the media player in Windows 8 says it's encoded with a codec not recognized by the player, and Windows Media Player will play the audio, but not the video. When I upload the file to Vimeo, it errors during the conversion process. (I'm using 720p 30)

WMV and MOV formats render just fine.

Any suggestions?

Cheers.

My PC is an ASUS M51AC Desktop
Intel i7-4770, 16GB RAM
GPU NVIDEA GeForce GT 640 4GB
OS is Windows 8.0

Hello 18tillidie ,

File H265 can be read by PowerDVD14 and VLC but not by Windows Media Player.
Mes Uploads towards Viméo always worked well. Hi All

Hi 18tillidie -

1. I'm not using the LIVE version 2. The information below relates to Win 7 - haven't tested the same thing on Win 8.

H.265 HEVC MPEG-4 files produced in PDR 13 play fine in:
DivX Player
GOM Player
MPC-HC
PotPlayer
VLC Player
Windows Media Player

Splash Pro - Audio only
WinAmp - Audio only
QT Player - Not at all

Uploads to Vimeo aren't an issue, I don't think. Just uploaded a short test clip - H.265 HEVC MPEG-4 1920x1080 @10MBps (still processing)... https://vimeo.com/113745341

Cheers - Tony

Thanks, I'll create a test file and have a play. I assumed Windows Media Player would play MP4's so I learned something! The original issue came up when the Vimeo upload failed a couple of times (the conversion failed, not the actual upload.) Maybe it was just something at the time on the Vimeo end.

My regular projects are generally 1+ hours long, so I'm always just trying to get them rendered and uploaded, so it's frustrating when something goes wrong, and I'm always too stressed at that point to play with it. I'll need to find a quiet non-stressed moment to tinker.

Side note: Good news is that Time Warner just upgraded my internet service from 20/2 to 100/10 so uploading a 3GB file just went from 7 hours down to 45 mins!!! (In practice, I could never get 2MB upload, it was always less the 1MB, but I am now consistently getting 10MB up.)

Cheers.

I just updated (had not used the program for several weeks).

Same issue with Windows Player. Never a problem in the past (Windows 8.1). Tried a few other video programs on my computer and they didn't like H265 Default either. Getting ready to upload to YouTube and will see how it goes.

Well, YouTube failed to process!

Recording in MP4 (Panasonic HC V750) and never an issue for the past year in either 13 or 12.

I looked and my last upload to YouTube was on Sep 21, 2014 using PD 13. The original MP4 from that date opens with Windows Player on my computer....

Messing around time..... I'll be back : )

h265 was not supported in PD12.

Anyway, it seems that h265 is a damned format:

I tried 264 and the output can be read with Windows Media Player and no problem with YouTube upload.

Hi all see here convert h265

Hi, created by Inkman
a small application to convert NX1 4K H.265 video file to full resolution or 1080P with H.264 or Prores 422 codec.
I made this mainly for editing the video with 1080P resolution. NX1 4K video file cannot be used in my FREE MS Window Maker. Also, after the conversion by using with Samsung Movie Converter, it still very heavy and it took long time to convert.

This software is much faster if you are willing to spend more disk space.
It can resize 4K source to 1080P at the same time, if the resolution is what you like.
It can encode to H.264, Prores 422 Proxy, LT, SQ and HQ.
I
t is very simple to use and IT IS TOTALLY FREE! I implemented this for the NX user! YAY!!
You can download it from my blog below. It has little more explanation about the software.
I hope you enjoy this!! If you have any question, please let me know.
You can download it from

http://www.mydiyworld.net/?p=1805

Changes for this version...
⦁ separated distro. installers for win32 and win64.
⦁ supports MP4, MOV and WMV files as a source file.
⦁ added H.265 (HEVC) in encoding codec option.
⦁ changed output file name format.
One thing you need to note is that I couldn't test H.265 encoding thoroughly since my computer is not powerful enough to play H.265 file smooth. I know H.265 is playable and I can see the video, but I cannot guarantee video and audio in sync. So, when you encode your video in H.265, please make sure the result looks OK.
I hope you enjoy this software.
Ah, did I mention it is FREE? Yes!!!

Please don't listen to people whom make silly statements that H265 is dammed, or domed,
they don't have the Samsung NX1 AND don't even use the H265 files I DO USE THEM AND DO CONVERT THEM no problem

Also download Potplayer it plays the h265 files no problem see below

http://download.cnet.com/Daum-PotPlayer/3000-13632_4-75587055.html

also the VLC player or power dvd, tend to stutter while trying to play but its up to you
i Find Potplayer superior to them all

I hope this may help some users of the H265 files,

please don't make comments that you cannot back up, with video file samples that you have tested
Thank You
Tom G

Because maybe you don't know yet that is broken? You want to wait until you hit the same issues that plagued others and fumble around to find out what happened?
I don't have time for that.

Can't make spring with just one flower.
The fact that you bought the Samsung NX1 does not make the format more attractive to others. Just to you.

I don't have time for that.

same here that's why I returned PD13, support was no help. 12 works fine for me.
so you don't have any problems with H.265 HEVC???

Man... if I rolled back every upgrade because something didn't work properly, I'd still be running Lotus 1-2-3 and WordPerfect on MS DOS 1.0

(Had no problems with H.265 back then!!!)
