Cursor jumps on timeline

I have an i7 4th gen. 16 Gb Ram,2 GB Video card and Win7. I down loaded the trial version of PD 13. When editing on it the cursor movement is not smooth. It jumps a few frames while moving which makes fine editing difficult. I stretched out the timeline to 2 minutes still the problem remains. Any solutions? This problem is not there with Pinnacle studio 17.

Try cutting your Preview Quality to normal. It cured the problem for me.

Hi

Welcome to the forum

There are many reasons why the cursor (playhead) may not be smooth. This include but are not limited to:

1. Preview screen being set on Full HD
Change to High Preview (rectangle in rectangle under preview screen)
2. Effects or Colour Corrections etc applied to the clip
Highlight clip and select Render Preview or Produce tabs under media library

3. Number of clips 'stacked' on timeline
See above

4. Location of source files
Ensure source files on your C Drive

5. Insufficient capacity on C drive
Ensure you have a minimum 100GB disk space

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried all that but the problem remains. When the cursor moves it seems to be jumping one or two frames.
I am editing mostly surgical videos where each frame is important. That is my problem. Pinnacle studio 10 and 17 does not have this problem but then they are not user friendly and does not have the many features which PD has.

My trial version of PD 13 does not have H.264 multiview encoding. Does the full version have that?

Please lt me know your suggestions and thanks in advance.

You are talking about a different situation.

There are a few ways to get one frame movement of the cursor.

1. Expand the timeline to its max of one frame. You do that by pulling the timeline slider to the maximum right.
2. Or you can put your mouse cursor on the time markers, press left mouse button drag to right until it stops expanding.
3. The Keyboard shortcuts of "," (comma)(previous frame) and "." (Period)(next frame).
4. The play icon is a toggle Play, Pause, Play. Space key is also a toggle Play, Pause, play
If you pause the playback the one frame functions come into effect.
5. The Icons on the Preview.

I have the same problem and documented (ok ranted) about it in my post: PD13 Fix/enhance problems, crash, slow, cursor jumping, audio/video splitting.http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/41052.page " target="_new" rel="nofollow"> http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/41052.page
I've found this happens mostly when the Fix/Enhance button is used. My cursor doesn't only jump a few frames, it stops completely in the preview window, but jumps to somewhere near the very end of the line of clips on the timeline. Most inconvenient.
I'm having trouble with it right now.... Only 30 mins of video on the timeline, and only 5 mins edited so far with colour director,...but that's enough for it to play up.
I'm considering 'producing range' of 5 minutes at a time, I think that would help.??? Jenny

Thanks for the suggestion.
I have tried expanding the clip on the time line it didn't help. One thing I noticed is that when I load mpeg 1 format there is no problem. Is it the resource crunch on my computer? But I thought i7 4th gen. with 1TB HD , 16 Gb DDR3 and 2Gb graphic card was good enough.

What about absence of H.264 multiview encoding in my PD 13 trial version? Is it available in full version?
