I use to have voice-over recording capability in PD12 by clicking on the Mic icon, but I somehow deleted the stereo mic icon option in the record tab window and lost my ability to do voice-over recording. The microphone ICON is no longer highlighted like the others.

How do I re-install the voice-over recording?

I do not have experience with voice recording.
My suggestion is to check installation of the sound card if there's something wrong, PD is not recognizing the sound card.
It's just a possibility there are many others. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3
SSD SUV400S37240G / 2-HD WD 1TB
AMD Radeon R9 270 / AOC M2470SWD
Windows 7-64 / PD16 Ultimate

If you post a screen shot of your voice over room (F10) with your Microphone plugged in, it may give us an idea of what you need to do.

Parts E & F.

You do know that you must setup the microphone in the Windows Audio Manager, in Widows 7 when you plug in the microphone, you may get a popup to select and configure the Microphone.

Once the Microphone is setup in Windows, you can then select the Device in Powerdirector Voice Over Room (F10)

We need to see your setup. What is your Windows version? And tell us where you plug in the microphone to the computer.

I have a Microphone input on the front panel.

I'm using windows 8.1 with PD12. I must say, the recording in PD12 was working Okay before I deleted the stereo mic icon.

In PD12 and to the left of the library window, one can see the Icon of a microphone. Yhis is what I lost and now trying to revive.

I cannot access the recording mode because my mic is dead. I am able to import media with sound and play it, but I can't record anything.

I attached a JPG of PD12 and my system in the first thread.

Give this a test...

Right-click the speaker icon on the right-side of the taskbar (the notification area) and click RECORDING DEVICES.

Right-click in the box that appears and checkmark both items.

Double-click on the MICROPHONE choice. At the bottom of the window, click the arrow to the right of "device usage" and be sure that "use this device (enabled)" is chosen.

Click on OK.

Your advice worked perfectly and restored my recording, but it only restored the stereo mic record. When I tried your method to return to the first choice, which is mono mic IDT I cannot get the apply highlighted to make the change to mono mic.

Here I see a single "mic" input, which becomes active when a microphone (stereo or mono) is inserted. When that's done, most modern PCs will prompt you to tell it what device has been plugged in.

PD won't see the device unless the soundcard does. In PC audio recording properties be sure that you have plugged into the jack that is shown. It's likely that some jacks can be mapped: consult the PC or soundcard manual.

I plugged in a mic into the front mic input and in the sound window, under the record tab, the default mic switched from stereo to the original mono mic icon.
I'm now back to where I started. Thank you.
