PowerDirector keeps crashing

When I save the video I'm working on, it keeps freezing at 20% in the saving process. I am then forced to close the program because it never completes saving. Also, now and then, all of the icons disappear and I have to minimize PowerDirector and bring it up again in order for the icons to come back. I need to finish this video in just a few days, so I'm getting a bit worried.

I don't know the true cause of this, but it could very well be a problem with my computer. I can hear that it sounds like it keeps shutting down and then booting back up, but that's not actually happening. Aside from the problem with PowerDirector, the computer just seems to be slower than usual and some programs stop responding. I tried using CCleaner, I did a disk cleanup, and I uninstalled unwanted software. I really don't know where else to talk about this problem. I'm sorry if it seems off topic, but my main focus is to use PowerDirector without it freezing.

Hi Bleduc1 !

Can you tell me a few things about your computer?

How old
How much memory
What kind of video card
What kind of video I.e. .mov, .mp3, h264 etc.
The reason I ask is Power director can bring your computer to a crawl ... Depending on the combination of the items you have from the above questions.

There are some other factors to consider if your hardware meets nominal requirements.
1. Is PD 13 setup to possiblly take advantage of your hardware ... Video card etc.
2. Is your computer setup to run PD 13 the best it possible can? I.e. Windows memory management settings etc.

Those are the basic ideas to figure out what's going on... And understand weather your computer is under powered or something isn't setup correctly.

Finally, Apply the newest patch...it helps with many stability issues... :

Cheers !

Teye is rally asking for the dxdiag.exe evaluation of your computer. He probably didn't know about the instructions listed as PartB here:

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/7958.page

It tell us all about your computer without giving us any personal information other than what you named your computer. .

I managed to get the video done. Now my biggest concern is exporting it. I click on the Produce tab, and nothing happens.

@Teye,

I got my computer just last summer. I have 1000 GB hard drive.
My Task Manager is saying that I have 22 percent of memory used. Overall, I have 8 GB.
I'm not sure what the video card is, but I'm reading some specs such as AMD Quad-Core Processor A4-5000.
I have MP4s, MP3s, PNGs, and some WAV files. The MP4s were done in Adobe After Effects.
Yeah I pretty sure that there something wrong with computer as well.

@Stevek,

Do I answer here?

1. Windows 8
2. 13.0.2307.0
3. VDE141029-04
4. ?
5. The above
6. Avast (Updated yesterday)
7. ?
8. Wondershare Video Editor, Adobe After Effects, and Premiere (I haven't used Premiere at all on this computer yet)
9. CD burning software? I don't have any.
10. No burning was done.
11. I'm reading the list from the "Background Process" in the Process tab of the Task Manager. I'm sure this could be part of the problem, but I don't know which ones are required.

- Activate Desktop
- AdminService Application
- Adobe Acrobat
- AMD External Events Client
- AMD External Events Services (2)
- AMD Fuel Services
- Avast Antivirus
- Avast Firewall
- Avast Services
- Capture LibService
- COM Surrigate (2)
- Communications Services
- Cyberlink RichVideo Module
- Device Association Framework
- Extension Core
- Host Process for Setting Synchronization
- Host Process for Windows Tasks
- Microsoft Windows Search Index
- NeroUpdate
- OneDrive Synce Engine
- Opera Internet Browser (6)
- Opera_crashreporter
- Pokki (2)
- Runtime Broker
- Sink to receive asynchronus
- Spooler SubSystem App
- Stardock Start8 Service
- Start8
- Windows Drive Foundation
- Windows Media Player Network
- WMI provider Host

12. This link is on DropCanvas, so it will expire in 3 days. http://dropcanvas.com/tron5

I don't know the answer for 4 and 7. Also, where do I locate the Readme html file

Hi Bleduc...

If your computer can process video using After Effects it should have enough horsepower to run PD13 ok.
Specs look ok too...note: video card specs area really import so I would find out what it is...use windows device manager and look at the video adapter section.

Do the following three things and see if it doesn't help:
1. Install latest PD 13 patch it is at the top of this area
2. Install latest version of Apple's 'Quick Time'
3. Check the hardware excelleraton settings in PD13. Try turning them on and off if your still having problems.
3.5 Update the driver for your video card if theirs is one available.

Let's see if these things help your problems...

Cheers,

Tye

bleduct1: Perhaps you missed the part about providing the dxdiag.exe evaluation of your computer. That is really what I need.

Just follow the directions and add the text file (NOT the TEXT) to your next post. .

@Teye,

In the Device Manager, I see that in the Display Adapter section, there is AMD Radeon HD 8330.

I admit, I canceled the Quick Time Player when installing PowerDirector. I figured I already use VLC Player, but it's no problem installing it. Does it really improve PowerDirector?

I'm glad you brought 3 to my attention. By default, Enable Hardware Decoding is checked off and not Enable OpenCL. When I tired unchecking them and checking them again, I got a warning from Hardware Decoding option saying that it relies heavily on the graphics card.

@Stevek

Sorry about that. I understand now. The zipped file is attached.

bleduc1:

Thank you for your dxdiag file. I note that your video card is not "explicitly" supported by PD13. It is not in the list of supported video cards, but that is not necessarily the problem.

See the specs: http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-deluxe/spec_en_CA.html?&r=1

Also, while your card has the required minimum of dedicated VRAM (more than 128 MB), it has only 493 MB of dedicated VRAM and Cyberlink recommends at least 1 GB of dedicated VRAM. The lack of recommended dedicated VRAM might impact HD editing, though I would suspect you would be just fine with SD video.

The latest version of QuickTime is ABSOLUTELY essential for PD13, and earlier version of PD because it contains codecs that are required by PD. Please install the latest version of QuickTime and see if that resolves your issue.

Hope this helps. Have a great day.

Regards,
-Phil

bleduct1 You have a AMD A4-5000 APU (CPU plus GPU) that runs at about 1.55 Ghz.

I'm not familiar with the AMD processors but from what I can find out, that is not even equivalent to a slow Intel i3 processor.

As you know, these are the minimum requirements:

CPU Processor

AVI Capture/Produce: Profiles: Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz or AMD Athlon 64 X2
DVD Quality (MPEG-2) Profiles: Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz or AMD Athlon 64 X2
High Quality MPEG-4 and Streaming WMV, QuickTime) Profiles: Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz or AMD Athlon 64 X2.
Full-HD quality H.264 and MPEG2 Profiles: Intel Corei5/7 or AMD Phenom II X4

The program will barely run on your computer under the best of conditions. When you are doing any video work, make sure nothing else is running. -- not internet, not e-mail, not antivirus - NOTHING ! You may be able to get something done.

Sorry

I have the same issue when I'm using Dual Preview. If you're using Dual Preview, try turning it off until you get your project finished.

This seems to be a common problem many people are working on. I haven't seen any ill effects from this, just keep doing what your doing. CyberPowerPC | Win7HP-64 | AMD FX-8320 3.5 Ghz | 8GB Mem | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB | WEI 5.9

I had a problem similar to yours for a project that took more than 5 hours editing, saved the day before.

Reopen project just to add audio at the start, I saved project.

Now no longer opens to 20% and have to give Ctrl + Alt + Del.

Unico way was to take the autosave project, I lost the last 10 minutes of editing, but decided my case.

Note: in my case PD caught when opening the project.

For PD stopped by producing file, note the time it stopped.

Open the project and the timeline locate the time position has an effect that cause the problem.

I have Quick Time installed now. Everything seems to be working okay in PD so far aside from it running a little slow. It's not freezing when I save, so that a good sign. A few changes that were made that could've improved this is the installation of Quick Time, disabling "Enable Hardware Decoding" in the settings, or the installation of Kaspersky for computer related issues.

@Stevek,

That's okay. I appreciate your help. Things seem to be working better so far anyway.
