Power DVD 12 just shuts down

Soon after launching Power DVD 12, it just shuts itself down, with no error message. It initially opens ok, then loads menus, and displays video icons, but then almost immediately closes itself. It will not play any content. I have DELL Inspiron 5537 laptop with Windows 8.1. I have re-installed Cyberlink Media Suite Essentials version of Power DVD 12, to no effect. Any suggestions to fix?
