Power Director freezes when inserting .MP4

Hi there,

Completely new to editing and Power Director 13 is my first ever editing program and I am a bit of a computer novice. Long story short I've tried to record video clips using bandicam both as a .avi and .mp4.

The first issue is that when I insert a .avi it will not include the audio it will just include the video.

The second issue is that when I try and import a .mp4 the program throws me this or will just simply freeze attempting to import it:

(*Note other mp4 files work its only the ones from bandicam, not sure if this is bandicam or PowerDirector)

I did some research and found this:

I'm a bit lost, I've heard about codec's etc... but didn't want to install until I was 100% I needed them.

Thanks ~Mac

Hi mac_1151 -

From the information posted in that link, it looks like you'd need to convert the MPEG-4 using Format Factory (or similar). The issue seems to be with the variable frame rate, rather than a codec problem.

In Format Factory, if you just use the default settings for MP4 your BandiCam clip will be converted to constant frame rate.

Quite a few forum members use BandiCam for screen capture and edit in PDR without issues. Perhaps they're recording to AVI.

Cheers - Tony

Sorry - I should have mentioned...

If you're installing Format Factory, make sure you either uncheck or decline the "recommended offers" that come with the installer (unless you want junk cluttering up your PC).

Managed to get it working after tweaking the audio settings for a few hours on bandicam! Not sure what got it working so will leave it as it is...

Thanks @ynotfish if it plays up again I'll look into it!

Thanks again for all the help.

Hi mac_1151 ,
A lot of media source errors can be resolved by looking at the audio settings and changing them. Often inexperienced users "over select" and choose the "max" when it would be better to copy the settings of a output file created by the editor used. Look up the output profile templates for mp4 and try and match those you select in your screen capture video - it would save you a lot of hassle.
Just an opinion.
Dafydd

Hi All,

I've got the same issue with MPEG4 captured by Garmin Virb camera.
I run PD13 on a HP Envy 17 notebook with both Intel and NVidia video controllers. If I use Intel controler to run PD13 all is ok. If I use NVidia, PD13 freezes importing the file. Or it freezes opening existing project with Garmin Virb files.
PD12 had the same issue. I'm wondering if updating of NVidia driver may help (there is 331.65 installed out-of-box)..
Thanks,

Hi,

No luck with latest NVidia driver. And this freeze isn't bound to a particular "kind" of mp4 captured by my camera.
If I run PD13 using NVidia controller it will freeze during video decoding (PD12 did freeze as well).
I just tried the latest patch - the same freeze...

Some crashes solve problems disabling HA.

In PD, menu Edit / Preferences ... / Harware Aceleration.

Uncheck Enable Hardware Decoding also Enable Open CL..., either 1 or 2.
