I would like to 'clean' the digital version. The original films were cleaned, it is really fixing damage like scratches - some of the film is nearly 70 years old.

It would be a very difficult job.

There is third party software that can extract the frames of the movie into single images.
If you have single images, you can use Photo Editing Software to touch up the images. Powerdirector does not have the ability to do that kind of touch up on Video.

That's a new one for me - I spend hours and hours trying to make my clean digital video look like old movie film, with grain, scratches, dirt, jitter, light leak etc. and there you are trying to make your lovely old movies look clean like digital video - spoiling the beauty of film is sacrilege.

Leave it alone - it's as close as you will get to the real thing - it's beautiful! :

In PD 11, PD 12 and PD 13 FX there is an "Old Movie" effect that does exactly that.
It turns the perfectly clear and color movie into a black and white with moving and flicking scratches.

Hi Pais, In addition to the one that Carl mentioned, I prefer more freedom of choice and control over the effect, so with PD12 I now use the Pixelan plugins, GrainPlus 2 in conjunction with FilmTouch 2 Pro.

When used together they provide the tools required to produce all sorts of film looks and damage.

Prior to changing over to Cyberlink PD12, I used to edit with Corel VideoStudio X7 Ultimate, using their plugin Boris Graffiti (I think you can buy a standalone version of that), but had too many crashes with VSX7, as it had problems handling high bitrate, especially .MOV files.

Pleased I changed as PD12 hardly ever crashes (although it can be a bit glitchy at times), and the Pixelan plugins are very good!

I disagree, both are used in conjunction with each other.
Firstly the film clips have to be normalised to match each other for colour temperature, black & white points set, denoised etc. In other words they are colour corrected using ColorDirector, before colour grading is employed to produce the required film look, using FilmTouch 2 Pro.

You can still apply limited colour grading using just ColorDirector, but grading is a complex subject involving many variables in addition to simply adjusting colours and this is where FilmTouch 2 with its numerous presets give either the required look straight out of the box, or gives a quick starting point for further adjustment.

If you want further detailed information then I suggest posting the same query in the Pixelan plugin section.

No Pais. Normalize in ColorDirector, (save as custom preset for each clip just in case you need to go back into ColorDirector to tweak it), then send direct back to PowerDirector where the Pixelan plugin can be applied as an effect either direct to the clips on the timeline video track or in the dedicated effects track. No need to produce until everything has been completed, unless of course you want to check to see how it's going to look - it's better than the glitchy preview struggling with the processor-heavy effects at full HD.

You can keep going directly back and forth between ColorDirector and PowerDirector (disregard the onscreen warning message about effects being ignored) as much as you like, and also between the Pixelan plugins and PowerDirector.
