Hi there,

What key do I use for "Drop", e.g. Alt+Drop. I imagine it is something simple.

Thanks

Alt + Del removes the clip and moves the entire timeline to fill the gap.

Shift + Del leaves gap

Ctrl + Del moves clips on same track

Is that what you mean?

It appears you answered my query before I edited it. I seem to remember seeing the "Drop" command somewhere, or are my eyes playing tricks on me. (Maybe it was a "Seniors moment" ) IanB

Oh, this is what you are asking about:

Ctrl + Drop
Overwrite content on track when a clip is dropped on another clip

Shift + Drop
Move all clips on the timeline to the right when a clip is dropped on another clip

Alt + Drop
Lay the clip over the existing clip and add a transition between the two clips when a clip is dropped on another clip

Maybe "Drop" is more a description.

If you click on a clip in the media library, press the left mouse button and drag that clip (move the mouse while holding the left button) to the timeline on top of a clip already on the timeline then release the left mouse button, that would be Drop.

Thanks Barry,

I had an idea that's what it meant but wasn't sure.

I must print out the list of Edit keys and have it close by. IanB

Hello,

I was searching for the answer to the same exact thing initially asked! However, it isn't actually answered within this thread. There is in fact a difference between the deletion and insertion of clips. Simply restating what it does isn't what we are looking for. When copying & then pasting a clip, screen shot etc. the options of Ctrl, Shift, Alt + DROP comes up. Yet what is not known is what keyboard button is actually the DROP button. Not what does it do, but which one, which button in addition to the SHIFT key, CTRL key or ALT key is used to perform the desired action.

The Drop means click and drag the clip to the desired new location on the timeline using the mouse while holding down the appropriate key like Ctrl, Shft, or Alt.

Let us know if this helps...
