Title pretty much sums it up, firstly what d I need to save the psd images as in order for the transparent areas to remain transparent for when I import them into PD12? - currently transparent areas resort back to white. Im aware of the opacity option but what I really need is for the areas that are transparent on the psd images to remain transparent so the video background track fills the transparent areas and the psd images are in the foreground.

Grateful for any help

(saving as PNG) the transparent areas are now black, I really need the transparent sections from photoshop to be preserved in PD12. Is there something I can do in photoshop or in pd12 to rectify this please? Im currently using photoshop CC (latest version)

Could you open the psd file in photoshop and then save or export it as a png without flatten or combining all layers. I know that it was necessary in some older versions to save in certain formats but you say you have the latest version. I don't have it.

In your first post you said the backround change to white now you say it change to black in png in your last post. This is inconsistent. Can try a free psd to png converter such as this one: http://www.zamzar.com/convert/psd-to-png/

Hope it works out for you.

has anyone managed to import transparent psd areas into pd12 and how did u do it? no issues saving as PNG but transparent areas appear s black in pd12. Alternativly is there a fairly quick way in pd12 to remove these black areas that should be transparent?

The answer is no. PD does not support these files. That has already been answered in the PD13 forum, I don't have any problem with exporting to png in older versions of photoshop. You should be able to do it correctly in your version. This is from memory as I don't have photoshop in front of me now.

Here is an easy way to do it regardless of photoshop version:

1. Create new transparent image of the same dimension as the psd file you want to convert.
2. Merge all layers of that psd file.
3. Copy that psd image to the new transparent image you just created.
4. Save that new image as a png.
5. Revert that psd file, you don't want to save changes to it.

Unless Photoshop has changed since version 7, you do not 'save' as png. First you merge visible layers. Then click on help and go down to export transparent image. Change it from gif to png and I always select online when asked. Used these images a hundred times, but not in PD 12. __________________________________

The transparent parts of the .png file will appear to be black if there's nothing behind it (in a lower numbered track). Have you tried placing an image or clip behind the PNG file?

Cheers - Tony

Thanks,

by saving the images to web I can preserve the transparent background, that does appear to be black when imported but it is actually transparent. Thanks Tony

You can extract picture in PD12 with that higher 1920x1080 resolution?

If so how do you do, I can not.

Confirmed here photo saved in PNG maintains transparency. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3
SSD SUV400S37240G / 2-HD WD 1TB
AMD Radeon R9 270 / AOC M2470SWD

whoa had me worried there, no I checked I was able to import and place the Claymation photo slides with transparency intact. They are PNG24 with locked transparency each file is about 3 MB so they aren't really huge.
