PD7 crashes a lot

I was wondering if I could get someone to help me out. I have PD7 installed on my computer. I had it on my laptop but it froze quite a bit so I moved it.

I haven't been able to get much HELP from James at tech support. Same old responses as I had when I had the trial version. Canned response wasting my time.

It would seem as though they would provide some sort of INTELLIGENT assistance. If I have to get a new graphic card I will. What ever I have to do to get this program to quite crashing.

There is not a definitive time it crashes or in a particular place. I recieve the windows dialog and that's the end.

Is there a diag file I can send in?

If I don't get this fixed I suppose I'll get a refund and move on to some thing else. If there is anything else. I've already tried most stuff.

Thanks

John

Hi John,

What are the specs on the computer you are trying to run this on?

Just a side note: video editing software seems to consume 101% of your computer's resources. If I know I am going to be working a video project on Saturday, I run the virus checker and spyware remover Friday night. Before starting the video project on Saturday, I do a fresh reboot and try to make sure no other programs are running needlessly.

Hope this is helpful. Good luck!

My problem has nothing to do with resources etc. I don't have virus, spyware, firewall on any of my computers.

On my laptop ACER 5600 runs everyting else I own problem free PD hangs up consistently to the point where It is not useable. When I scroll the video slider PD locks up I have to reboot the laptop.

On my Intel 4 2.8 gigahertz 2 mb ram I have totally random problems but they all end with a Microsoft dialog box and then the program crashes.

So, it's consistent on any computer I've loaded it on so far. Each computer has XP Pro running.

I just got pd 7. I switched from pinnacle due to lack of .mov support. I can import directly from my sd card with no problems. When I try to move them to edit I get a pal/ntsc conversion box come up and it then closes the program. Any ideas?

Hi John,

Just my 2 cent’s worth here.

I experience many/multiple crashes as I work on projects too. And not being very computer savvy, I’ve just come to believe that it’s the nature of the beast. So I constantly save, save, save, pds files when working with PowerDirector. Then, after yet another crash, I just re-open PD with the last pds saved and keep going.

My setup’s specs (as far as I can tell) meets and exceeds all of PD’s minimum requirements, so I can’t see why these crashes are so prevalent. I have read many points of view on this crash issue (e.g. Add this, Remove that, Turn this off, Use this graphics card, Don’t use this OS, etc, etc, etc), but often one opinion conflicts with next one offered. (and I’ve pretty much abandoned Cyberlink’s customer support in favor of this forum, as it’s been far more helpful and responsive)

This forum is full of some very knowledgeable people, so it would be nice if maybe someone could compile and post a definitive primer/tutorial on how to eliminate (or reduce) these lock-ups/crashes. Perhaps by generating a trouble shooting list, listing in order of most to lesser in importance, the state that one’s computer should be in, to lessen the strain on one’s CPU (or related factors), when using PD.
I’m not saying that I’d understand it all, I’m just saying it would be nice, hahaha

Anyway, good luck John. I hope you get the bugs worked out, cause PD really is a cool piece of software when it’s running smooth.
