Odd thing about import of .jpg

It doesn't happen with all my photos...just a few odd ones in the middle of the presentation. I put together a mixed Blu Ray with both photos and mp4 movies. In the middle, I had a few photos that were taken Vertically. The resolution on ALL my photos is 2340 x 4160. When I did the same setup using v12, this did not happen. The photos look bloated. They import properly as far as orientation, but they make everything in the photo look FAT! I am able to fix, before adding to the timeline, by simply choosing to rotate 90 degrees to the right....then the photos look normal. What is happening with v13????

Thanks

Hi bobmitch -

You say, "It doesn't happen with all my photos...just a few odd ones"

I just tested a large number of portrait shots from a dozen different cameras (all DSLR) and every portrait shot displays correctly. I tried a largish number to see whether there may be some pattern... but none of the ones I tried displayed sideways (the orientation tag is embedded in the metadata).

So - what's the source of the photos? Are they straight off the camera or have they been processed/edited? There must be something about them that's causing the issue.

It's also very odd that rotating them causes distortion!

Could you attach an example image?

Cheers - Tony

Here You go. Capture 1 is the bloated photo. Capture 2 is the file, the way it should look...after I rotated it 90 degrees...very odd indeed...Odd thing is that the photos import properly into v12, which I installed on my laptop, to see if it was the photos or v13...

Sorry -

I meant the actual photo you imported into PDR13 - not a screenshot of the photo.

Could you post the information I asked about above? Image source? Edited or straight off camera/phone?

Cheers - Tony

The photo was taken off my LG G2 phone. If you right click the file, amd choose properties, you will see all the info.

Good news, bobmitch -

The photo from your LG phone displays correctly in my PDR13 and PDR12 (screenshot attached). Same in PhD6.

When rotated 90° in PDR, it retains its proportions - no distortion.

In Windows, it displays sideways. JPEGsnoop reports it as being "Raw Image Orientation = Landscape"

I can't explain all that, nor why the same photo displays correctly in PDR12, but you may need to edit your portrait photos in an image editor (rotate & save as?) before import.

Cheers - Tony

I have issues with my ZTE Flash android phone. Some images import into PC flipped horizontally when viewed in Windows Image Viewer! Intel i7 4770k, 16GB, GTX1060 3GB, Two 240GB SSD, 4TB HD, Sony HDR-TD20V 3D camcorder, Sony SLT-A65VK for still images, Windows 10 Pro, 64bit

SOLVED!

Okay guys, since this company is absolutely no help I will solve the problem for you all since I just solved it for myself and I'm in a sharing mood.

Ready? Here is the fix.

1) Open the folder that your images are in.
2) Find some blank space that you can right click in and when the menu comes up select "Customize this Folder"
3) Make sure that the folder is set to general and not pictures.
4) Hit apply.
5) Enjoy non distorted import.

That's it. Restart the program and import the photos. They will no longer be stretched. I believe it has something to do with whatever Microsoft does to format the folder when it's primary use is picture browsing. Once you turn off the picture based customization it should all work fine.

I'll be sending Cyberlink my bill.

Actually screw it that only works for some of them. Maybe it's a memory issue or maybe they just want to force their photo editing software down our throats. Either way I am done with this company. Getting a refund.

I also started having the same issue today. Have done a couple of prior projects with pictures in PD13 but hadn't had issues before. When I look at the image properties in Power Director the dimensions are reversed - a 1600 x 1067 image is showing as 1067 x 1600.

Tried the solutions above (changing folder style and rotation) with no luck. Any update on the patch?

Having the same problem. Did nearly a dozen videos last week using hundreds of images. Opened a new file today and over half of the jpgs I bring into the Media Room distort. All were raw images that were processed in LR5 and exported as jpgs, using the same settings. Doesn't seem to be anything different about them.
