Stopped playing Blu-rays

PowerDVD 14 Ultra stopped playing Blu-Rays about a week ago. First I thought it was a new disk I got but it played in my PS3. Then I tried other movies and they don't play either. When i go to play the movie the screen goes black then after a few seconds it goes back to the main screen. It does detect the movie as it shows the disc name. I installed a trial program that plays blu-rays and it plays in that so it can't be the drive. What would do something like this to stop the program from playing my movies like this?

What changes did you make to your computer? Did you update drivers, add or delete a program, run a registry cleaner?

Have you tried to use a Windows Restore point to before the program stopped playing blu ray? If so did that fix it? .

I have had the same problem. PowerDVD worked fine for several years, then suddenly stopped working. I tried upgrading from 13 to 14 and get the same issue: PowerDVD will show the title and info from a blu-ray but when I try to play it the screen goes black and it complains about error 101. I have not installed any new hardware on the computer and other applications can access the blu-ray drive just fine. I tried using support where they had me disable the anti-virus software and re-install PowerDVD with no effect. After that a new person replies on support and suggests the same thing! Awesome.

Anyone have an idea what could be going on?

I ended up un-installing it, then installed it fresh with no updates and it now works fine. Not going to install any updates again if this is what happens.

There seems to be an issue with 13 and 14 regarding HDCCP. I have 12 and it plays everything as it should and always has but you’ll see a few post about 14 crashing or giving a black screen when trying to start a Blu-Ray. On my LCD computer screen I get a black screen with audio but with only the TV connected most movies play as they should but there are a few that simple cause 14 to go back to the main screen and not being able to try any others after that.

Again, PowerDVD 12 on the same PC plays all movies as it should.

I have an AMD 290 video card and Windows 7.
