I make a monthly video presentation made up of clips from various activities and events.

Between different topics, I use Modify/Fade In, Modify/Fade out. Works perfectly.

And between clips of the same topic, I want one clip to fade INTO the next clip. I use Transitions/Fade. Sometimes this works so the previous clip fades INTO the following clip as I want. But there are times when it fades to black and then to the next clip.

Cannot figure out what is happening. Need help big time as this one has to be burned in the next couple days.

Hi Betty.
Have you left enough incoming or outgoing ( heads or tails ) video to create a transition ?
The black you described could be because you are not leaving enough video for the transition. If this is the case, you could introduce a freeze frame to enable your transition to function
OR
just trim the outgoing & incoming video a few frames. That will get rid of the black.

Cheers I just want to edit and make pictures, walk my dog and go fishing.

Yes, there is enough..
I notice that on the Transition/Fade that works properly, in the audio part of the clip under the Fade is a blue section that is entitled Gain. How is it that those that work right have that blue gain insert, and those that are not what I want, do not have that blue insert.

Hi Betty -

For a start, PD's transitions do sometimes behave in an unexpected way (like fading to black when you don't want them to). The only cure is to delete the transition & re-insert it.

That transition with the blue audio gain section is an Overlap type. The fade without the blue audio bit is a Cross type. Neither should fade to black.

If the transition is at the end of the clip (postfix) it will fade to black... but you knew that.

Cheers - Tony
