Check your Power settings for Windows 7. You should be able to change it to not come on while the computer is actively working.

Are you using a laptop without the power turned on? .

Thx for the replies. The problem has cleared up. I don't know why. It was probably a case of mistakenly getting into a windowed mode as was mentioned previously.
