Want to thank all of you for answering my questions. I have finished my first video using PowerDirector12. And on the whole, am pleased with it. Have to make one every month.

I had made many before with other programs, but needed help with PD.

Must admit, if I had looked at PDTOOTs tutorials first, might have helped. But as many are not PD12, still would have had questions.

This forum is very, very helpful. I have searched for topics before asking, have read through many going way back. Always learning.

You Senior Contributors sometimes use terms I am either not familiar with or are technically way above my head. And I can see that others writing for help have the same deficiencies.

But we really appreciate you.

Thanks a million.

Thanks for the Thanks.

It is difficult use try to determine what kind of terms are appropriate. Some people say the answers are way over their heads and some complain that we are talking down to them. Asking about their technical competence won't work because some of the worst offenders are those that have worked with computers (and videos) for many years. Some are stuck in their old way and have issues adjusting to new technology and procedures. ( Refer you to the first line of my signature).

If you really want jargon, look at the Q&A in the PowerDVD sections. Even after I look up the terms, I get lost ! I'm not sure how much of the video/audio technology really matters. .

BoilerPlate: To posters who ask for help -- it is nice to thank the volunteers who try to answer your questions !
Anything I post unless stated with a reference is my personal opinion.

I echo Stevek's comments.

I have for many years tried to answer questions in as simple terms as I can, but there are some things that only the correct term answers the question.

There are terms used in the Powerdirector program by the programmers, that is the only term to refer to a given function.

Maybe what is needed is a glossary of Powerdirector terms.

If you read the Help in Powerdirector there is a page that shows all of the parts of Powerdirector and their names.
In help (?) look for "PowerDirector Workspace", you can search for it or look in Contents.

Must admit, if I had looked at PDTOOTs tutorials first, might have helped. But as many are not PD12, still would have had questions.

The good news is that the steps in previous versions are very similar or identical to PD12. PD usually adds new features with each version but rarely removes or completely changes existing functions, so I think you'll find that all the toots are still relevant!

As the other commenters have said, that's always going to be a challenge because there is such a huge range of experience and technical knowledge across the wide swath of people using PD.

I think the whole point of the forum is that anyone with questions should be free to ask for clarifications or definitions of things they don't understand, so please don't be intimidated if something stated here is "over your head." Even the forum "experts" had to learn about these things from someone, and nobody here wants to make you feel bad for not understanding!

BTW - Congratulations on your first video, and I hope it'll be easy and enjoyable for you to add new editing skills with each new project!
