Hi there,

Newbie to PD12, in fact new to Cyberlink!

I have had to upgrade from my previous Editor (EditStudio6 & DVD Lab Pro from Mediachance) as I bought a new Canon HD 16:9 Camcorder, and EditStudio6 has problems with AVCHD/MPEG4 files. My Wife and I are off on a 6 weeks overseas holiday at end of July so I thought I would try PD12, before we leave. Not only did I try but finally purchased it!

But there is one thing that PD12 doesn't have. That is the ability to draw lines on maps to show where we have been. EditStudio has this ability with an Effect plugin called Route Tracer. It allows up to 99 nodes to create the tracer.

Now, the BIG question, is it possible that a plugin could be developed to do this Route Tracing with? I am not into software development, so don't where to start. Is it possible that someone has already done this or could do it? I know this is a big ask, but I would be interested if this could be done. I have emailed Cyberlink support but they don't have any plans at this stage to add something like that.

Hoping to get some positive feedback on this.

Thanks IanB

Hi Ian26,
You'll need a map image of where you've been.
2. Drag it into the track(1)
3. Select PiP Objects room ( star icon on the left)
4. Select the "Pencil" drawing icon in the object tools.
5. In the pop up you'll have your Map as the back drop and below the player a red record button.
5-1 the following will be unique for the Map image, ok.
6. Select Pen and the colour you want, move the slider to lesson the pixel size - 5 should be ok.
7. Select the red record button under the Preview image of your Map.
8. You are now live to draw on the map - the line of where you are, traveling, Click the left button of your mouse when drawing, release when not.
9. click the red button to stop.
10 Select "Save as" and you'll have a motion record of the route you took on a map.

I have written this up from memory, if it's wrong please say.

Dafydd

Edit, I think I chose Pen as my preferred option when I did it. Added the bit about the mouse click.

In addition to what Dafydd wrote,

There is a Program named Route Generator, that can draw your route. The video created by Route Generator can be brought into Powerdirector and used in your video.

Best part, the program is free.

Thanks guys.

Dafydd: Not quite what I wanted but it is pretty close.

Carl312: That is a great little program, may go with that, but will probably use .jpg files instead of .bmp. I ASSUME IT CAN BE USED WITH JPEGS? Would I have to use a jpg2avi converter in the generation? I have emailed the author any way.

Thanks again. IanB

Hi Ian

Is this what you want to achieve?

https://vimeo.com/85634429

If so, you need to use Paint.net (it's free or another editing software that can create transparency) and draw a transparent line through the road you want to show and save as a PNG file.

You then add it to the timeline with the original map with a color board with movement.

Thanks Neil,

That's ALMOST similar to what I used in my previous, faithful, editor. But at the moment, after having a play with it, I think I will use Carl's suggestion, as I will probably be using maps from Microsoft's Auto Route Express for Europe and the UK, and Streets and Trips for USA and Canada.

While on the subject of maps, I want to use Google Earth (standard not Pro) to draw the flights from Australia (Melbourne to Sydney) to Vancouver Canada. (Melbourne to Sydney, Sydney to Vancouver). Then Toronto to Manchester via Ry..... (Iceland ), then Heathrow to Melbourne via Dubai and Brunei.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

PS. This query is directed at anyone with suggestions IanB

Heinz,

That is alright for professionals, but I am only doing this on a personal travel video and can't afford 350Euro on my fixed income.

Thanks anyway. IanB

Hi Ian

If you have or know someone with a Mac use/ask to use iMovie. It has some excellent World maps. Go to Youtube to see results.

Thanks Neil & James1.

Neil, are there maps like those for windows?

James1, on your map I would need to go from Sydney, Australia to Vancouver, Canada, which would entail going from the right of Australia to the edge of the map, then picking up in roughly the same position on the left of the map to finish the tracer in Vancouver. what would be the best way to do that?

Thanks again to you both. IanB

Not as far as I know. (try searching Google 'free map graphic software) Unless of course you purchase a map software product suggested in the comments above.

Good luck with your search.

Is there an English version of the software?
