Has anyone tried to convert 2D video to 3D? How well did it work?

Hi,
I did 2d>3D with a short clip of my grandchildren...worked out good but you have to experiment with the depth slider.

Hi James1

I just finished an experiment and left the 3D slider control in the middle. 3D was pretty good but the colors were off. Red rocks looked greenish, no red at all with or without the red/cyan glasses. Moving the 3D slider control made no difference. See captured images.

Hii,
I found that 2d to 3d is not as depth adjustable as adding an object and making it 3d you have more control of the depth, but taking a video and applying 2d to 3d you get the depth but not as profound.
I use anaglyph as that is what my monitor supports. It still gives the video clip depth tho'

Hi James

My main problem is the color change. As I said red rocks look green with or without the anaglyph glasses on my monitor or TV played through my bluray player. I am not sure what to make of this. I watched a cyberlink tutorial on youtube and followed the instructions.

thanks,

Hi,
I think that is the 2D to 3D anomaly not sure. What is the result if you disable the 3D, do the colors come out right? When I created mine I assumed that the color change (altho' I didn't have red in the clip) was PD rendering as 3D. The 3D in anaglyph type is achieved by offsetting the 'channels' for the color channels (Red/cyan) by a pixel count pertaining to depth wanted.
Years ago I used a bitmap editor to achieve the results in photos by breaking down the RGB channels to there own channel, masking the object in the appropriate color channel ( at the time I had green and red glasses) I wanted 3D then shifting by a pixel count in each appropriate channel then re assembling the channels into new Image. This process worked.
I am not sure how PD Achieves it tho'
But you won't get an "imax" type 3D from 2D image, the video would have to be taken with a 3D camera to achieve that and then I am not sure you would.
Post a small clip here and I will see if It is a system thing or a video problem.
Jim
p.s. If you go to my youtube channel in my signature there may be 3D concepts I made there it is James PIP done in anaglyph

Hi James

I attached 2 short clips, one in 2D and one in 3D. when I put the glasses on the red rocks lose their color. I wonder if it is my glasses. I see the 3D effect but lose the color.

Hi,
Well I downloaded both clips you attached. The one that says 3D did not import into my system as 3D, but I imported both and yes the colors when converted to 3D the rock colors did have a green tinge thus changing the rocks. I am attaching my production here to show.
Thus I think it is the algorithm used in the conversion. When viewed as 2D everything seems fine.

Hi James

I looked at your footage and it looks like mine with the glasses I am using. I actually see almost no red in the rocks at all. Do you see some red with a green tinge or almost no red at all?
What glasses are you using?

Hi,
I am using the cardboard set that came with my graphic board red-cyan. Yes there was no red in the clips.
I think that to get a 3D with the original colors you have to use side by side from a 3D footage. As doing a 2d>3d simulation
using anaglyph you are going to get messed up colors.

Hi,

I wanted to convert my college video into 3D but I didn’t knew any right way to convert it so one of my friend recommended me to use a 3D video converter. It really worked amazing for me. I sharing this convert with you if you want you can use this for amazing experience.
