why photodirector keeps creating temporary photo folders of projects on my computer?? this is so annoying and when I delete the folders an exclamation mark with a yellow triangle appears in photodirector workspace and the images could not be traced?!
I don't want these temporary folders created, how can I avoid that??

Hello chahira,

You're right. When you set up a project in PhotoDirector, a folder is generated in your preferred location. The folder contains the project file (.phd), journal & cache folders. This is how PhotoDirector remembers what you were doing!

This is normal behaviour for media software, including PhD. The files are very small & will have no negative impact.

Quote: when I delete the folders an exclamation mark with a yellow triangle appears in photodirector workspace and the images could not be traced?!

- No - this won't happen when you delete cache folders. PhD will simply regenerate them.
- It will happen if you remove or rename the original photos or their containing folders.

Quote: I don't want these temporary folders created, how can I avoid that??

- It's unavoidable. It's the only way PhD can keep a record of what photos have been imported & what adjustments have been made.

In your import window, do you have the "Make extra copy" option checked?

unfortunately the answer missed the problem! the folder being created are not Phd folders, they are normal windows folders containing copies of the photos I am working on in the open project, the project files and folders are different, the folders I refer to are just normal windows folders with photos in them created by the software and I want this annoying option to stop! help!

Hello chahira,

I'm sorry the post above "missed the problem". Perhaps you could be more specific and post the exact location of these "normal Windows folders".

The folders I referred to above are "normal Windows folders" created by PhD. I'm not sure which other folders are causing you such annoyance, but I'm happy to help you investigate.

File location, folder contents & screenshots would help define the problem.

Hello,
Thanks for your quick reply, I am sending you the screen shots attached for the temp folders from the windows view which are created under the pictures general folder by the software and which I want deleted/stop generating, and also the screen shot of the same folders from photodirector desktop space, thanks!

Thank you for the screenshots. Now I understand correctly.

When you import photos, you have the option to "Keep in original location" or "Make extra copy in..." (Pictures folder is the default) If you choose the latter, you'll get extra copies!!!

Here, I don't get the folders you're bothered by because I have "Keep in original location" checked.

My apologies for the slight misunderstanding.

I searched through the forum looking for an answer to my question, and I came across this thread. Hopefully, you might know the answer to my question. Regarding the cache files generated by Photodirector, is there a way I can specify a different location for these cache files to be kept? I have a couple of SSDs and would rather utilize this to hold all the cache files. Thanks!
