DVD can't play after burning

Hi all,

After I have burnt the project to DVD-R disc using the DVD Hi-Q format, the finished disc cannot be played on my PC using ASUSDVD media player, or PS3 or conventional DVD player. The disc will just keep spinning with all the media not showing anything. The project is about 60min & size is 4.3G & I'm using a 4.7G DVD-R. The frustrated part is I have burnt the same project in PD9 and it works perfectly. I did try to burnt a 10min project & it works fine.

Any advise on where could be the caused of this will be greatly appreciated.

Rgds

Nope, nothing being shown as disc keep spinning.
If I double click on the DVD RW folder, the PC will hang for a while & it will revert back to normal windows again. No error message etc.
When I press eject, the disc tray will open & the ASUSDVD media player will then launch.

Think I will try burning with a different menu or no menu at all to see the outcome.

Sounds like the disk never completed burning.

If you burn a Disk Folder only (uncheck Burn Disk, Check Burn Disk folder), does create disk complete? ( Burn Successful )

If you get a successful burn, you can burn that disk folder to an actual disk with Disk burning software. There is plenty of free disk burning software. Imgburn is one.

Per PD12, the burning was successful.

May I know where is the "uncheck Burn Disk, Check Burn Disk folder" option located? I can't find it in PD12 "Produce" & "Create Disc" page.

I have tried burning one without any menu & end result is the same.

I'm trying "Produce" now in DVD HQ 720x576 50i to the PC and see how is the outcome.

Just complete the "Produce" in DVD HQ & the result can be played with the ASUSDVD Player. The produce does not contain the menu.

Could the "Menu" in the project the caused of the problem?

It is in Create Disk on the final output Window after you click Burn in 2D.

Appologise for the late posting, was not able to enter cyberlink websites for the past few days.

Oh, there it is. Thank you.
Tried burning to a disk folder & it was successful.

However, the video quality has dropped as compared to when burning direct to DVD disc. Is that normal?

Bluray should be better quality. However BluRay does have a SD profile. The Bluray disk will have whatever quality video you have in the timeline.

Just because you are burning a Bluray disk does not increase the quality of the input video. It is just a greater capacity disk.

Yes, BluRay do have better quality & larger capacity.
Unfortunately I do not have a BluRay burner currently & I won't be getting once soon as I still have many DVD-R blank disc stock.

I will try doing a fresh project similar in size and menus and see whether it is playable after burning in PD12.

Not having a BluRay burner may explain why you cannot read the disk.

DVD players cannot read or view AVCHD or Bluray formatted DVD disks.

DVD players can only play correctly formatted Video in SD.
The Disk must have:
VIDEO_TS
AUDIO_TS

Folders in the root of a DVD disk.

Don't think BluRay is the issue here as I have successfully burnt some projects into DVD and can be played normally though they are of smaller sizes/length.
I only have problem with one project which is of bigger size / length (mentioned in my earlier post).

Anyway, let me try making a fresh project with similar size /length & see the outcome.

If you select Create Disk > 2D disk > DVD.

You will burn a standard DVD.

you cannot put HD video on a standard DVD, no standard DVD player will play them.

Powerdirector with selecting 2D disk > DVD will create a standard definition DVD that should play on any standard DVD player.

Nothing else will play on a standard DVD player.

Specifications for DVD Video. The resolution of a standard DVD is 720x480/576 NTSC/PAL

Thanks for highlighting those points, though these are not the causes of my problem.
