Recover Deleted Menu Template

Hi,

I accidentally deleted a menu template (which I made some modification) & now PD9 crash when I launch the "Create Disc". The crash happen almost towards the end portion of 'Create Disc" stage. The pop-up error is the standard windows program not functioning error. That's why I attribute the problem to the deleted menu template as I'm able to burn other project not using that particular menu.
The original menu template is "Film Festival" & I have renamed it Film Festival 1 after I made the modification.

I have tried using 3rd party data recovery software but not able to pinpoint exactly which is the correct file to restore.
Will appreciate any kind of help so that I do not need to redo the editing all over again (taken about 2 weeks).

1) Which file type should I recover?
2) Anyway to "deactivate" the menu template link from the project so that I can launch it with "Create Disk" & redo the menu again?

Appreciate your reply.

Thanks
Freddie

Where did you get the Menu template?

If the missing Menu Template is one of the original templates that was installed with Powerdirector 9, you can re-install the program to gain back any templates you deleted, provided they are the core templates installed with the program and not downloaded from Director Zone.

If you have the Download version, you can just install the content packs again.

You can start a New Project. No way to go backward in a project unless you have been saving As and using unique names.

Thanks Carl.

The menu template was downloaded from director zone & I still have the original menu as another project using it is working fine. The one that was deleted was with some modifications & saved as another name.

I have also tried making some modifications to the original menu template & save it as the same name as the deleted copy but it still doesn't work.

Guess there is no way to "unlink" the menu from the project so that I won't have to redo it again.

Whatever you do, make a copy of the PDS file before you do any editing.

If you are not afraid to edit the Powerdirector PDS file (it is in XML format). You can view it in Internet Explorer in the XML format.
You can edit it in MS WordPad or Notepad.

If you use WordPad, be sure you save back in Plain Text Mode. Or notepad is always plain Text. Notepad does not show the lines spaced correctly.

If you can find where the Menu is included, you may be able to delete all the lines referring to the menu.

I do not normally recommend editing Powerdirector's PDS file.
You should only make your changes in the Powerdirector editor.
In this case, you don't have access to change the menu because you deleted the one PowerDirector was using.

Moral of story, don't move, rename or delete files that PowerDirector is using in a Project.

Yes, I've always been careful but might have taken my eye off the screen this time.

I'm actually trying now using WordPad & comparing it against another project with close properties. Hopefully can get it to work.

It is a painful lesson learnt in a very hard way.

Thanks for everything.

Just a update on the issue so others can benefit.

While trying to fix the lost menu, I decided to upgrade to PD12. And "Create Disc" can be activated with PD12, though without the menu of course. This saves me from re-doing the whole project again.
