Use a black colorboard at the end of the clip. Adjust the colorboard time. Fade the clip before the color board. This should be adequate-- thus a fade to black. Is this not the sme as a dissolve?? Fade the next clip in.

Well, strictly speaking, no. A fade is a simple transition or wipe in which the entire scene is faded to a color, most commonly black, and on occasion, white. So what you would get would be a fade to black, some black screen time, then a fade *from* black to the next scene. What I simply want to do is dissolve from one scene into another, also incorrectly referred to as a cross-fade. You see, there is *no* real fade going on in a dissolve, and most cameras support a fade in or out to black or white, but few support dissolves >sigh<. Guess I'll have to see if I can load up OSx86 and get FCP to work Thanks for the help anyway -- my version doesn't even seem to have a fade effect! You'd think in the retail premium version you would get the basics like dissolves and fades, but I guess you get what you pay for still...

Fade is in PD5 Premium.... it's in all CL PD versions.

Fade is the basic transition wipe.

If you look closely at the image you'll see 3 Dissolve transitions for PD7

Lol, my version didn't come with either one of those transition wipes. I did however download the upgrade for my version, and they were supplied in there. I wish that they had included them originally, but alas it's not 2b :-/ At any rate, it works, I'm satisfied, and I'll probably upgrade to the v7 just for the extra PiP tracks : Thanks for all your help!
