Hi I like to know what file format would be best to use when simple cutting a few frames out and I want to save the outcome file to the same file format as the original video file?

You said it....

Use the same format as the original video.

If H.264, then AVC H.264 in the same resolution and bit rate as your original video.

Trying using SVRT which tries to do exactly that. unfortunately, all formats may not be supported, but seems like the most used formats are supported. Intel i7 4770k, 16GB, GTX1060 3GB, Two 240GB SSD, 4TB HD, Sony HDR-TD20V 3D camcorder, Sony SLT-A65VK for still images, Windows 10 Pro, 64bit

Yes, you would have to select AVCHD.
Then Click on SVRT
Click APPLY
If there is no custom profile, a pop-up will ask to create one. Give it a name that you will recognize like AVCH 720p@29.97

Click Ok
Select output folder
Click on START

You can find out what your original video is, by either MediaInfo or Right click on the video in PowerDirector library.

MediaInfo download: (Free)

If I took a guess, It is probably 1920x1080 16-17 Mbps 60i.
That is what my Canon Camera makes.

When you go to Produce and click on SVRT, PD should create a custom profile that matches your file exactly. I would think that SVRT works the best if you use files all from the same camcorder, too.

So far that is how SVRT works for me with one exception. I have some MPEG2 HD @59.94fps. Although SVRT does indeed properly recognize the file format, PD will not output to it. Hi GGRussell
What your meaning by SVRT is the option, '' Intelligent SVRT''? What I was talking about earlier was the SVRT tab, down in the bottom, under the info of the format that you pick to use. Thanks for your help.

Unless you have a file that matches a preset profile exactly, the one at the bottom will only be selected AFTER you apply Intelligent SVRT first.
